How bad is the 7 backcountry?

It's the 2nd rifle to be released with fuel injection.. but they will never replace our carburetors.
We are in the minority, lots of us hunt, shoot and many of us hand load. The general public (ammo consumers) typically just hunts. I base this assessment on all the hunters I have hunted with over the years, and both my son in laws.
The reaction from my avid hunter son in laws was "I want one".
There hasn't been a substantial change in ammo technology in 100 years. The Fury and the Backcountry probably represent what's coming.
I doubt I'll ever own one, but Siri doesn't live in my house either. 😊

Mine either! lol

Technology is stagnant on cartridges. I applaud them for thinking outside the box.

3000fps from a 20" barrel with a 175 grain bullet fired from basically a 280 Ackley cartridge ain't nothing to be mad at.

It already has 80 rifles worth of support behind it.

Where they may have screwed up is not having a supply of cases, reamers and reloading dies available day one. SAAMI listing would have been good too.
3k out of a 20" barrel isn't what impressed me

Backfire on YouTube was getting 2930's IIRC out of a 16" barrel…

It's actually a great business move for federal to reach out to a "new" hunter who wants to keep up with the times. The reloading community isn't really into to this so much and it definitely competes with the 7PRC. Now this is obviously tailored to the guy who wants to just go buy a factory rifle that shoots factory 7mm ammo fast with a short barrel to save weight for the "backcountry" hunter. It's all marketing and that's them doing a good job for a business cuz that's how they stay with the times and make money. Yeah I could buy all the components and a longer barrel and make a hot rod 7 RUM but not everyone is into that. So this 7 backcountry is definitely the easy button for a guy in that market and let's be real federal is using Guys in the meat eater crew to promote there stuff and Remi Warren already has a podcast about it so it's all for the hunting community as far as I can see. But let's just be thankful Hornady didn't beat them to the punch on this cuz do we really need another cartridge with the creedmore name on it 😆

Can't have saami listing the pressure is too high

When you have SAAMI don't you list the chamber and the pressure it can take? So if you have a chambering that is dependent on the cartridge case to take some of the pressure I am not sure how that would work.

On the .277 Fury SAAMI lists above the case drawing MAP (maximum average pressure) 80,000 PSI.

In a note below the chamber drawing they say "WARNING: Maximum Average Pressure levels greater than 65,000 psi may present increased risk of unsafe cartridge case or firearm rupture and thus require cartridge case and/or firearm designs that depart from traditional practices (materials, construction, and other design criteria)"

Are they going to manufacture traditional brass cased ammunition for the 7 Back Country? Would they then have two different chamber pressure listings?

Just curious. I wasn't into rifle shooting in '07 when the 6.5 CM was introduced. For those who were, was it met with the same skepticism and negativity as this new round?
No. The creedmoor wasn't talked about too much. Most thought it wasn't anything new because of the .260. It took 10 years to catch on. But this backcountry being steel is a completely different animal and will face a lot of adversity because of it.

Federal says there confident it'll be approved here shortly by saami. I'm sure they're right

This will be accepted eventually and will take time. Look at the 6.8 Western which is now really starting to get some legs as well as it's brought some back to the 270WSM. Federal though is an Ammo and component maker/designer so it's what they do. Maybe not to the level of a Hornady but that's their business. Good luck to them and I applaud them for pushing new technologies. When a company become stagnant they get left behind. Prime example from the Tech world, Intel is in terrible shape, NVIDIA and AMD took their market share and are eating their lunch by pushing the envelope, just like what Hornady did to others because the others got stagnant. From what I've read Federal already inked numerous licensing contracts with over 20 firearms Manufacturers. Good for them and I hope they succeed as it's good for the firearms industry and all of us as well.

I think most out there hope it succeeds. That being said if I had a new hunting partner that was new to hunting/ rifles and he was looking for a new gun/cartridge this one wouldn't be considered. That's just my opinion and it's not worth much. Hopefully they can prove us wrong and get these rifles to shoot at 80k

The rifle can handle it as long as the case can. It'll take some time just like the 6.8 Western which everyone said the same thing about. I'm glad to see Ammo and reloading component makers doing the cartridge design and pushing the new tech these days as opposed to the firearms manufacturers.
