Hornady 208 A Max for 300 RUM???

JEREMY,

No problem---------I like long posts, short ones sometimes don't answer all my dumb questions.

I have seen the Speer 130 7mm boat tail spitzer, moving pretty fast, make pass throughs on white tails inside 50 yards. Bullet dia. entrance with maybe 1 inch dia. exit. Doesn't make sense, but there it is............

I still have not tried the A Max on game, although my brother has; we still don't have enough experience with them to have the full picture. So, maybe we need to keep posting results and the picture will get clearer, quicker.

Thanks,
Jim

Ok todays results.

94 grains of 2225 (Retumbo in US) 2 shots were within .25" and the 1 about 1.5" away.

94.5 grains, 3 shots made a triangle all about 1.25" apart.

I will try two 3 shot groups at 94 grains and crony tomorrow and see how I go. If they dont shoot I'll be trying either 200 grain SMKs or 178 grain A-Maxs. I cant see the point of loading any lower just to shoot a high B.C. bullet. Loading down seems to defeat the point of the 300rum, might as well have a 300win.

AR2217 is actually H1000

AR2225 is Retumbo

Joel0407 had them correct in an earlier post.

Aren't powder manufactors a pain that they can't use the same name.

Best I got out of the 208 A Max was 95gr Retumbo (2225) for about 1.5"
92-95 were tested.. the light loads were 6" groups.. 94gr 2" and 95 1.5"
Speeds started 2850 and rose approx 50fps per load to 3050fps with 95gr

I used same load with a 200AB, better accuracy immediately (just) and less pressure signs

I can get about 1.5", no worries at all but I dont think this is good. The 150 grain Combined Technologies go 0.48 moa.

I just want the B.C. of the 208 A-Maxs.

I would be very interested in your results as i was planning on playing with them in a couple months in my 300 RUM. Keep us posted :D Thanks.
My Son and I have been using the 208 gr A-Max in our 300 RUMs for a number of years now.
We are loading 91gr of Retumbo with a Federal Premium Match Large Magnum Rifle Primers.
Our results are 3150 fps on a chrono with excellent accuracy.
Love this combination!
