Holy Grail of long range rigs? What custom gun/caliber to get

Oh!!! You want the Holy Grail of hunting rifles. Sorry I missed that point.
That's easy. If you can afford it (as previously mentioned by Dah650) it'd be the DTA SRS A1 :
DTA SRS-A1 Rifle Chassis - Firearms - Desert Tech

Looks like the rifle and one barrel will be around me $5500. It isn't out of the realm of possibilities

If you're interested in a similar set-up, you have a couple of them made in Montana ...

For reasonable cost and performance, I would have to say that the .30 caliber magnums to the .338 magnums would be the all round calibers and would do anything you want. More is not always better but it is More.

The choice of which one would be your choice depending on your needs and wants.

I would not recommend anything lighter than a .30 caliber even though they could do the job
and anything bigger than a .338 is more than enough for your needs.

Just an opinion

More can be done with a 30-06 than it's given credit for. 300 WSM would seem to be a good balance of your requirements.

if I was starting over I would check out gunwexrks.com as you can get a rifle/scope combo set up for 1000 yards for under $6000. They have 30 cals available but would not count out the 7mm offerings

I have had rifles built by some of the best gunsmiths in the country and everyone of them are amazed that some of these company's can get $6000.00 for a $3000.00 rifle.

Jeremy another one to talk to would be Bob Petersen who builds and works on any manner of rifles. I just had him build me a .280 Ackley Improved on a Winchester Model 70. I love how it turned out!

This all depends on whether its an apples to apples comparison. If you add high end optics and everything you can do to a gun mechanically and cosmetically then it doesn't take long to burn thru some dough.

I had a local guy here that had a lathe and claimed he was a gunsmith. He was selling barrels @ cost and installing them cheap. Some of them shot really well. All of them looked like garbage. He was running around tooting his own horn on how a person is stupid to pay more than what he was charging. I guess if a person wants to shoot a gun that looks like garbage that is their own choice. One of my friends had a gun built by him and shortly after took it to a good gunsmith 20 miles away that found a pile of things that were screwed up. He had the gun rebuilt right this time.

The guy paid quite a bit more but now has built several guns with him and everyone of them are perfect. The moral to the story is find a good smith or company and stick with them. Price shopping you can usually go by you get what you pay for. gun)

Thanks Feenix. I'll check out nemoarms. I will not do business with Noreen or recommend anyone to deal with him.

You're welcome! I don't have hands on experience on Noreen's offerings other than handling them in my LGS and what's on you tube ...

Is that at Big R? I think Noreen's guns are fine, my friend just built him a house and didn't get paid so out of Principle I won't buy one

Yes it is. That's NOT cool. I hope it gets ironed out. I understand your principle.

Sounds good. Next time I am up that way I will have to stop in. I always stop at scheels but not usually big r. I'm thinking of going with a more traditional bolt gun though. Not sure what some of the old timers would think of a semi automatic or military looking rifle. Normally I wouldn't care much but since they own the land, I do

My wife asked me what I wanted for Christmas?
I want an official Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle!
She said that I would shoot my eye out.
