I've heard that Fred does good work , the bolt lift never really bothered me .

I know what you mean about building them , I've got a 243 built off of an old model 116 that started out as a 270.

2 years ago i bought a savage model 12 vlp in 300 wsm, did not do a barrel break in or anything,

first 5 shots from the gun, 3 shots with silver box factory winchester 180 grain, 2 shots with winchester factory black box accubonds 180 grain, 3 different shooters, all made the same hole bigger.

I used factory as it was not going to be used for long range, and i did not want to do any load development, but since i have reloaded, and it seems to shoot almost everything well, but does not seem to like flat base bullets and rl 17 powder as much.

but it sold me on savage for sure, after having problems with a remington.
