picking up my new LR308 tomorrow and i have never reloaded for the 308 or for a semi... can anyone point me in the right direction as far as what powder and bullet to start with???

My main question is what bullet and weight should I go with?? 24'' bull barrel 1-10'' twist

Varget and RL-15 would be the main powders of choice.
depending on what your shooting plans are 168gr bullets good to
700 or so yards ....
Get small base dies for your auto loader RCBS would be a good choice.....
41.6 tac LC cases. CCI lage rifle and 165 sst or 168 should shoot good.
41.5 IMR 4895 all the above.....
work up on your loads and watch your primers for flatting signs......

I have a Rem 7400 in 308 and I bought the small base dies and don't use them, just regular sizing dies. I shoot 125gr. Speer HP, TNT with 44.5gr H4895 2.787 OAL at 2880 FPS out of a 22 inch bbl. 3/4 inch at 100
I'm testing some Sierra 150gr. HPBT with some Varget powder at the moment.
Going back to the range in the morning. I'll keep you informed.

It all depends on what you want to do with the rifle. Target shooting? Hunting? as to bullets and weight. The 308 is not hard to make shoot. Most any mid burning powder will work. Varget, IMR 4895, RL 15, AA 2520, IMR 4064. Target, match bullets 150 to 177, Hunting, I like Nosler ballistic tips from 125 to 165 gr for average 100 to 180 LB deer size game. I prefer the 125 gr it is a real killer. For larger game I would stick with the Nosler 165 Accubond myself.
