Help me build my first lounge range rig

Actually there are lots of folks reaching those kinds of velocities with 26" barrels with the 7mmSTW caliber, which is more efficient than the 7RUM (VERY close velocities and energy w/ less powder consumption, and lower recoil), and has better barrel life. You could always run a 28" 1:9 barrel and shoot the 180 Bergers out of the STW and get some excellent performance even beyond the 1K mark. Alot of folks underestimate the 7mm calibers, however, they can be just as effective and efficient killing machines. However, if .30 caliber is what you want, go for it, will have a good 1K gun no matter which direction you go.

My mistake, I posted pretty late last night and I thought I had read 7mm rem mag. I know the RUM and STW's are pushing some extremely impressive speeds and would out run and out hit a 300. Winny. I guess I need to wait till morning before I post next time. My apology too oldmossy.

IIWY, I'd save some time and frustration and contact Jerry Teo (http://www.mysticprecision.com/wp/) , he's a LRH member (IIRC his username is mystic?), he might be able to help you or make recommendations on what parts is available for your build (or even gunsmith) and if you can even import them into Canada.

No need for opologies. Not the first time I've had someone question those speeds. But like I've said before. I'm only stating what my chrony reads, and at 1000 yds, I had 52 clicks on my huskemaw scope. Zeroed at 200.
My friend shooting his at 3250. Same exact rifle and load. 93 grains of retumbo. Just different primers.

Wow, those are impressive numbers. What is your COAL on those? Do they fit your magazine? That is the closest I have seen to something comparable with the 215 Hybrid at 3,100 fps.

Not sure the COAL. They do fit in magazine. I'd have to ask my reloading buddy that loaded them that question. I'm sure they don't come close to riflings, because I wanted them to fit in magazine. They are definetely hot loads. My primer pockets aren't that tight on second loadings. So I tossed them after 3rd shot. Small price to pay for that kinda performance was my thinking. After talking with Kirby Allen, I decided to get that kind of performance or better while being a little safer and ordered his 7mm AM.

Just ran the numbers on the 215 at 3100, compared to the 180 at 3300 at 1000yds. Going by berger BCs, they are very close. The 300 had slightly more KO(140#)and almost identical wind. The 7mag did have around 20inches less drop at 1000.
I think my BC was a little higher than advertised according to my drop data.

If it makes any difference, I've been trying to study up a little on the 300 Norma Mag and have been very impressed with what I've learned about it so far. This is different than the old 308 norma. Using the 210 Accubond LR with a BC of .730, Mcwhorter has been getting around 3150 fps. It makes for some very attractive numbers on the ballistics chart.
