I have a project going where I will eventually have a carbon Sendero barrel in a Manners stock. Until then, I'm trying to get a steel barrel to use in the same stock for a while before rebarreling to the carbon Sendero.

Anybody have experience running a Heavy Sporter or up to a Heavy Bull Sporter contoured barrel in a larger, Sendero channeled stock?

I don't want the steel barrel to be absurdly thin sitting in the Sendero channel, but I also don't want to step up to a really heavy contour just to fit the channel perfectly.

No experience to that extreme, but often times when installing a factory barreled action in a chassis, a similar situation exists. It just looks strange. It sounds like you are planning to install a different barrel while you wait for the CF. Not certain what your short term goal is, but it should be fine. It'll just have excessive gap around the barrel.

Yes, I have, but why not pursue your ultimate goal—what you really want—even if you must wait longer for the CF and avoid the unnecessary cost of a steel barrel (~$400-600 and up)? Use the cost avoidance towards other parts of your project instead. But that's just me. Good luck!

Carbon barrel will be a few years down the road, chambered differently all together. I'm gonna put a steel barrel on to use with my kids over the next several years and eventually re barrel to my ultimate goal.
