Ok, we are leaving early tomorrow morning to go get a cow moose. This will be the 1st harvest using our bullet. Brian has the cow tag and I will be running the video/calling the shot. Then the pleasure of packing. This will be the first terminal test on a live animal. We will get video of the shot and pics of the terminal performance to show you guys. We talked yesterday about what shot to take. The high shoulder shot will certainly give the dramatic kill and look better on video but neither one of us is much for shooting any meat. So I am sure the shot will be in the crease. Never have any trouble finding a lung shot animal and don't mind doing it. This hunt will happen with a 260g .338 with a mv of 3300 fps. Delivered by a 338 lap imp. We confirmed drops out to 750y last night so feel comfortable at that range give or take. Have not had enough time to verify farther. More concerned with how far we have to carry this critter than how far we can shoot it.

So we will try to document this hunt as thoroughly as possible. Anything in particular that you guys want to see?

Entry, wound channel, exit pics, and any recovered bullet pics, if bullet is recovered. 10 twist barrel?

Yes this bullet is designed to shoot from a ten twist at any altitude. This bullet is designed for deep penetration, not for frangibility. Soft on the nose for long range if the opportunity arises.

Sounds very exciting, except for the packing out part. Actually, that's probably not a bad video to cover since it is the hardest part of the hunt. lightbulb

Happy safe hunting/filming.

Cheers!

Got back from our trip on Wed night. The story is really a better hunting story, but the purpose of this thread is the findings of bullet test on game. So the short of it...

Bullet performance was very good. I will have to figure out how to post pics from various devises. We used a 338 Lap Imp with a 260g at 3300 fps. We harvested two animals. The first was a 120 lb female wolf at 265 yards. Shot was perfect through the heart. She turned in a couple circles as she fell down the hill. Entrance was caliber and exit was nickel sized. Heart in pieces and lungs broken up. Second animal was a cow moose at 80 yards. Shot was unfortunately forward through the shoulders and front of lungs. (Quick shot not a good rest, just the way it goes.) Cow dropped on the spot. Not even a wiggle. Entrance was caliber size with no blood shot. Exit was quarter size with no blood shot. Shot took out Central nervous system and blood shot the lungs. Sorry no longer range report, but still a lot of season to go.

The bullet is made from pure copper with an annealed tip. This is the ideal performance from a bullet from my perspective. We have also done some testing on a frangible style, but not on live targets, for you guys that like to blow big holes.

I think in a couple of weeks, when things settle down a bit, we will be getting packaging and a sponsorship here so we can start offer them for sale. The plan as of now is to start with two or three sizes of .308. As people have said earlier, I don't want to have all kinds of offerings and not be able to keep up. So, I think we are ready to jump, but not into the deep water. We will work our way to the deep end. Meaning we are prepared to add machines as they are needed. The goal is not to have back orders.

It sounds like great bullet performance and a good hunt. I might try some of your bullets when you expand the line to other bore sizes. More good bullets on the market are always welcome.

Just a peeve. I wish people would stop referring to hunting as "harvesting". You harvest corn, you hunt and kill animals. Referring to hunting as "harvesting" diminishes the experience. I know it's a nod to the political correctness that infests our world nowadays but referring to killing as harvesting is not going to make the extremists hate us any less.

Rant over. Thanks for the update and looking forward to trying your bullets.

Gary I understand your rant completely. I can't remember when the term harvest started. I am nearly 50 and I remember the term being used to describe the big game season by the fwp when I was a kid. Long before the pc police. Anyway, we made them very dead.

What caliber of bullets are you interested in?

Steve

Sounds like the bullets performed well at high velocity impact speeds. Look forward to seeing pics... but it appears that these two bullets are still moving down range... :)

Lol, exit wounds bled well.:D As you know, my preference is for full penetration with heavy permanent wound channel. We have developed a line of frangible bullets that will make a nice mess. We still have to test them at long range to see how they act at low vel. I am confident in the bullet we just used at long or short range. We will be testing on antelope in a couple weeks. Hopefully we can get some longer shots.
