Has anyone killed more that one animal with one shot?

That's a hell of a story! There's something about that moment of decision in the field—when you know you've got the power to make it happen but hold back, waiting for the right shot. It's almost like you respect the situation enough to make the call, even if the temptation is strong.

I've had a couple of close calls like that, especially with varmints—sometimes you get that perfect opportunity where you're staring down two in the crosshairs, and it's tempting to just go for it. But there's always that split-second of doubt about the shot placement and whether you're risking a messier outcome. A lot of things can go wrong in a situation like that, especially with bigger game like elk or mule deer.

I think the biggest thing when you're faced with that kind of shot is assessing the variables—wind, range, and the sheer size of the animals involved. A rifle can make it happen, but even with the best gear, it's a risk you take on the responsibility of the hunt.

As for shooting 2 at once—I've shot multiple varmints at once, like prairie dogs, but larger animals? That's a different ball game. I've always heard of people pulling off the 2-for-1 on hogs, though. They don't seem to spook as easily, and you can often get a good shot at a group. But with something like elk, I think the risk of wounding one and making the situation harder to recover from outweighs the reward.

As for doing it again, I don't think I'd intentionally try it on big game. Varmints, sure—it's more of a sport at that point—but I'd always opt for a clean, ethical shot with large game. It's all about respect for the animal and the hunt itself.
