Now I'm wanting to build a 30-338 lapua improved with a 12 twist 30" lilja with 3 inches of free bore. Stuff it with a 110-115 grains of 4350 under a 124 HH and blister something. Or is it the whiskey talkin.

If I can get a 120 Barnes to 4050 fps out of my .300 win mag in a 26 inch pipe (and I can)…:I wonder what a .30 xc with a slow twist (even slower than 12) with a 34 inch pipe running hammers could do?

Commercially available propellants will only expand so fast. I'd say you'd be there with the xc.

Good grief, while I want everyone to stay safe The primer will blow and excess will exit the exhaust relief port long before a bolt will shear a lug, just another reason lots of folks love Hammers

I was talking a hammer in the figurative sense, not the brand... I suppose it was a poor analogy in this thread...

All the hammers I've tried worked above my expectations on the ease of tuning in a sweet spot. Placed another order last night. My wife loves her Weatherby Camilla Mark V. I am just not into the Weatherby cartridges due to the exclusiveness of ammo.

you need to keep in mind that the bullet is the cheapest item in your hunt and the most important to successfully taking the game you are after don't cheap out!
