Hammer 124 Hunter Necropsy

Dropped a 125lb sow.
Thought I would do a full necropsy.
Hammer's are hands down my go to bullet no matter what bullet weight or caliber or critter.
Hogs just die when the hammer shows up!

Can tell you the 110's in the 6.5 flavor may even be more devastating probably due to increase in velocity, having shot both to 500 yds I will pick the 110 grain Hammer hands down. At 500 yds the 110 Hammer is averaging .6 moa groups started off at near 3,200 from standard .260......

Is your 260 an 8 twist? If so you seen any problems with 110 and that twist?

THIS IS NOT A DEFINITIVE TEST B/C OF MEDIUM I USED... but I found it interesting the 124's penetrated deeper then both the 110 (velocity) and the 135 (momentum). It seems to be the perfect balance for MY "20" barrel.
But I'll let Steve answer to different barrel lengths.

Won't hurt anything. If anything it will aid in terminal performance.

Yes it is an 8 twist and the bullet length needs at least 8.75 so i have zero issues with and shot it near 300 shots so far.

What was your velocity with the 110 Hammer.

Hammer 110 Hunters = 2931 FPS with a 20" 1:8 T.R. using Varget.
There are other powders for the Creedmoor I could have gotten more speed out of but I just went with Steves load suggestion to not waste the bullets on paper versus driving them through hogs!

I've have a short action 6.5-284 in the pipeline. It's currently mocked up for the 99 grain Hammer, with intentions of Alberta baited wolf shooting.

Not worried about it's performance on that particular critter, but curious about how it would work on hogs.

If you get curious I'll buy the bullets!

I had to jump on their website didn't even know this was a thing. I don't recall shooting a hog with anything lighter then a 120gr bullet for the 6.5 Creedmoor. But if I would, I'd try these first. I've got some loads at 2900-3000 FPS for this weight grain bullet.

The 124's are our go to for monos, they unleash a pile of dead right there!! My daughter better get some into elk this year!

In the Creed if your seated long enough to make use of case capacity can use H4350 will need about 45 grains is my guess to get to 2,950 - 3,000fps. Work up to it from about 43 grains.

If not enough case Varget will be your go to. Will need to hit 2,900fps with about 40 grains, start at like 38 and it build up to speed.

Either one you choose make sure to load with Magnum Primer!!
