Gunsmiths for Ruger M77 rebarrel?

What is wrong with these action.
I prefer them over most the other action except for a real Mauser action.
Nothing wrong with them just seems like most people scoff at the idea of putting the same amount of money into truing up a ruger as it would cost to buy a custom.

Just so I have this right. It cost $900-1500 to true a Ruger 77 action? That would make a custom a better platform.

Cost of blueprinting a Rem 700 is at a minimum $250. Assuming if I would have bought this Ruger brand new today just for the action you're looking at $800-$1000. You're right in the ball park of a custom action. I'm not here to debate the merits of factory vs custom, I'm here to get the names and phone numbers of a handful of gunsmiths that will perform what I am asking. Some on here already have (thank you to those guys). But if you can not add to what I'm asking for please move on.

Sorry to have stepped in your toes. I was wondering why it cost so much to true a Ruger action?
I have several Ruger 77's and would like to know if I decide to rebarrel them.

maybe I got lucky but I did not true my action on my m77 ruger. its A shooter and I dont think a person could ask more from it from a accuracy stand point. I bedded the wood action with fiberglass and let it eat after that. Maybe I got lucky but the thing shoots.

Then my apologies. I took that wrong way. At a minimum, truing will be $250.

Good luck and dont settle for a local hack! The local so called smith screwed an 8 twist 22-250 on my old tang safty so crooked I have to shim the scope base. The other tang safty got butchered into a lug settup because the smith didnt want to mess with the angled screws. Had a smith shorten the throat for 40 grainers on a VT when they first come out, 7 thousand rounds later it wouldnt group worth a darn with 40 but still shot great with 55s😎
The main advantage/problem with a Ruger is the scope bases. Thier great for regular hunting but take a little work to get a long range setup done.

Depending on chambering, https://www.jackweigand.com/Ruger-M77-MKII-Rifle-Scope-Mounts-No-Drill.html has a quick solution.

No apologies needed. That is why I was questioning the cost. I couldn't imagine it being that much different from any other action.

Good evening everyone,

I'm in need of recommendations for a really good gunsmith that is will true up a Ruger M77 MK II action, rebarrel, and do a proper glass bedding job into the stock. Yes I understand I'm "wasting" money doing this with this action. Don't plan on selling the rifle. No, I don't want to hear about how I can get a custom action for the same price.

Update: I am using a HS precision stock and a McGowen barrel for this build.

Thanks!
Why would you think you were wasting money doing any work this action?

EDIT: I see this has been mentioned already. Disregard.

What makes you think that you're wasting your money on this build? I have done this with a number of Ruger 77s and me never been disappointed!'

Nothing wrong with M77 MKII's for almost all use. A strong, well-designed action, investment cast (Pine Tree - lost wax process) with tolerances of +- .007 inches then machined. My suggestion would be to go to McGowen for the re-barrel, have them true up the receiver face & lap bolt lugs ($85). Negligble gains with complete blueprint.

An alternative stock would be Richards Micro Fit & select what you like. Some simple wood tools like a 1/4-1/2 chisel, 1/2 gouge, wood rasp, cabinet maker file, orbital sander w 120 grit, 150-320 grit sandpaper, Min Wax Poly Rub, & JB Steel Epoxy will save you $100's.

The trigger may be improved by replacement with a Timney ($125) or some pro trigger job - don't attempt this until you get everything figured out.

I use 20 MOA WEIG-A-TINNY rails on my M77 MK II's for long range with Burris Sig Zee rings. No problems but require high cheek pieces. Be sure to follow Weigand directions - nice guy.

No caliber mentioned. I have .375-.338 down to .20P. Most short actions, including .22-.250, 6mm & 6.5 CM, .243., .204, .20P. Long actions 6mm AI, 6.5-06, and .375-.338.
