I just got my 18in 300 wsm barrel from carbon six. When I took it out of box it felt very heavy it weighs 2.5 pounds. Defiance action ag sportsman stock the gun weighs 5lb 15oz Has anybody weighed a barrel one to compare-does this seem heavy ??

Weight savings with carbon barrels are often not as much as many believe. Carbon barrels aren't lightweight due to thickness, I handle lots of barrels and even I was surprised at the heft. Sure, the same profile stainless barrel would be heavier, but most run a thinner contour when using all steel barrels. I saw about half a pound saving on the rifles I built.

Cheers.

I have a proof SS .308 cal at 22''. Looks like a 2b ish.
I'll see if I can get an accurate weight and let you know.
I think it is way lighter than a few carbon 6 barrels I have.

The .22-250 C6 barrel is a featherweight at 22' weights 2.78#
The Proof SS .308 unchambered and unfinished end is 2.58#

That depends on barrel specs (e.g., contour, shank/chamber length, shank/chamber diameter, muzzle length, etc.). Below is a blank 24" C6 .860" at the muzzle for my .338 Thor.

What is the barrel contour? I have an 18" featherweight coming in next week from carbon six that I will weigh.

CARBON BARRELS ARE NOT LIGHT WEIGHT.

They are light for PROFILE vs a comparable profile steel barrel.

Heavily fluted steel barrels will almost ALWAYS be lighter.
