I'm just curious because I've been using HBN in a couple rifle's for a few years now. Is there suppose to be any benefit to using the graphite over HBN?

Picked up the Mac's from Napa. I am just putting it up for the label information. Maybe it will work for some of y'all.

Bullet plating and ease of clean up. I use powdered colloidal graphite in the case necks I mandrel size. It starts out as little spot on your finger and the next thing you know it looks like you work in a coal mine. Maybe it's just me???

This stuff makes powerstroke engines run cooler, quieter, make more HP, and last longer. If it can do that for a ford, imagine what it can do for a barrel.

The gunsmith that put a brake on my brother's 300 Win Mag Savage used Lock-Ease to put the brake on.
We took it off a couple of years later to try a suppressor to see the difference.It came right off.
My brother shot the rifle 5 times and put the brake back on with no problems.

Getting back on track…
I quit using graphite as a barrel coating for a couple of reasons. One being that while copper clean up was easier, getting the carbon out was a bugger. Knowing all along that graphite is carbon I became concerned that burnishing it into my barrel may exacerbate buildup of the dreaded "carbon ring". hBN just seemed like a better alternative and that's the direction I've gone. If I had the same issue as the OP I would use graphite in a heartbeat.

Dirtrax what is your method of getting the HBN in your barrel?

I always start with Hoppes #9 with 2 patches then clean with my Wipe out Patch out. It has been working great for me, never had a problem. But we don't have a lot of moisture here in Montana. I always keep a heater going in my reloading room at the shop, stays at about 62 degrees.
