"Give me your best price..."

Many buyers like to get you down on your price ........ they feel good about getting a deal. You can price it a little over what your bottom line is and go from there. Many buyers think this is the way many sellers set their prices. But some lowball so bad it's insulting!

I don't mind them fishing around to see if I have any wiggle room in my number, but simply asking for that bottom dollar amount without any work is just lazy and I feel a touch rude.

In my attempts to sell a rifle on this and a few other common sites, I've come across a strange phenomenon. I'm being hit evermore frequently with the response of "Give me your best price." I'm sorry, what!? Maybe I've just grown old and salty as I march steadily towards the twilight of my 30s. I always thought the way to barter was if you didn't agree with the asking price for something, you proposed a counter offer and if the seller was not insulted by that offer, you negotiated back and forth until you could either find an agreeable price in the middle or, if not, go your separate ways. But "Give me your best price"?? Do people actually abide this type of exchange? So far my response to this has always been "No thanks".

Am I being unreasonable?

Yes. You are being unreasonable, to yourself. 😆

I always ignore those kinds of buyers if I've made it clear, one time, that I will entertain offers. If I don't like the offer at all, I simply do not reply unless they come back with a better offer. I mean why do I want to waste my time engaging with a wannabe buyer whose price point is not even at my floor?

That is the most confusing thing I've ever heard. "Give me your best price."

Let's say a new Rifle Y sells for $1000. I list it for $900.

The a guy says, "Give me your best price." ….but he thinks $850 shipped is what he would pay.

Ok, $900. Do they just buy it for $900 then. I doubt it.

The whole point of bartering is it is the buyers time to counter offer. In my case, you are never going to hurt my feelings. Even if you say $100 to my door. I will say no thank you.

If you post something I want to buy, expect an offer from me. I'm not insulting you. I may have a different perceived value. It is ok to say "no."If you counter, I may or may not accept. I will never ask you to "Give me your best price." That is dumb. You already gave me a price.
