Fatjake ....Basic full length resizing die.
Is forster that much better than a basic rcbs full length sizing die or at that point am I splitting hairs
I have reloading dies in an XL spreadsheet, I can sort for brand
17 Bonanza
1 CH
9 homemade on mill and lathe
29 Forster
3 Herters Krupp
2 Hollywood
5 Hornady
2 Krupp
91 Lee
16 Lyman
6 Unknown vise die
2 Pacific
80 RCBS
14 Redding
2 Schissel
1 Wells
21 Wilson
-------------
303 total
I have a Sinclair Concentricity gauge. With it I can measure that AA called bullet tilt.
I have read , "Gauging Bullet Tilt" from "The American Rifleman" ~ 50 years ago:
THE MOST PRECISE AMMUNITION
FROM A LOT CAN BE SELECTED
WITH A BULLET ALIGNMENT GAUGE.
By A. A. ABBATIELLO
While it is true that I can make reloads and handloads with a garden variety set of RCBS dies that shoot so well an improvement is academic.....
I still can make more concentric ammo with Forster dies.
My standard approach to each new rifle cartridge is to:
1) Buy solid pilot reamer
2) Buy #3 taper premium barrel from Benchmark, Shilen select match, Lilja, Lothar Walther, Hart, Krieger, Pac-Nor, etc
3) Buy lifetime supply of Lapua brass, if available
4) Buy a lifetime supply of Nosler ballistic tip hunting bullets
5) Buy a lifetime supply of powder with temperature and anti Copper fouling coating
6) Buy the Forster seating die on line, if available
7) Buy the Lee collet neck die on line, if available
8) Order by phone the Forster full length die body with neck honed out to my specification, if available
But if those dies are not available, the RCBS set probably is.
