I like my 6.5 Grendel with 95gr v max.
Me too. Where I am the fur is useless.Kill them all,let god sort em outWill kill a coyote with whatever I have in my hand. Killed them with 30-06, 270 WSM, benelli SBE, Browning Auto 5 Sweet Sixteen, even killed one with a Ruger 10/22.
I had the exact same gun, but I bought mine in 1976. It had "Made in the 200th year of our liberty " stamped on the barrell. I rue the day I traded that rifle. It was a gorgeous gun.The VERY first rifle I bought personally on my 18th birthday was a brand new Ruger, tang safety M77v in .220 Swift 26" bbl. I was working selling guns at a sporting goods store in San Jose Ca. called Mel Cotton's Sporting Goods. My best buddy Scott worked there as well, we both worked the gun/hunting and fishing departments.
He wanted that swift in the worse way and so did I, well, I eventually talked him out of it saying it was a barrel burner and ammo was hard to find. At that time (1980) only Norma made ammo and it was $9.98 for 20 rounds!!! he passed, and on July 11th that rifle was mine. I have been reloading since I was 9 years old and after shooting and sighting in the Swift, which killed ground squirrels with LIGHTENING! Those Norma loads were 4110fps. with a 40gr. soft point! Yup S P L A T on anything out to 250 yards!!! For those who have never fired anything over 4000 fps; it is MAGICAL, soda cans, cantaloupes, watermelons, and doves just vaporize. Yotes, DRT always, never had one even twitch after smoked with the Swift within 250-300 yds.
That old swift has produced one of my best groups EVER out of a factory rifle, with 40.5gr. of Varget topped with a 40gr. BT @ 4200fps is pretty dang good! I haven't shot that rifle in probably 10-12 years, It's about time to dig her outta the safe and let her stretch those beautiful Swift legs, yote fur is looking pretty good this time of year!! Still one of my ALL-TIME favs!!
