What's going on at the front of the handguard, right side? Is it just my eyes playing tricks on me or did someone butcher it to have access to the gas block adjustment screw?

Definitely looks like a dremel and some rough fabrication took place here. Too bad. Maybe a smith could fix it up with a little TLC?
