For all you 30-06 owners, what bullet are you using?

180 Nosler Partition on top of 57 gr IMR4831 for 2750ish fps from my old Win 70, 22" bbl.
Mine's a 1957 National Match with Krieger stainless tube.

I'm interested in this also as I have a remington 700 30-06 that I'm starting to do load work on.so far I've got 178 eld x at 2780 with 6.5 staball also have some loaded up with n550 but still working on that load.im waiting on my hammer bullets to show up and have few other bullets to try
Hi again
Today i was check again my blaser r93 and i was shot with :
Hornady sst 165gr - 48,5 gr vv n140 - 810 m/s
Nosler BT 165gr - 48,5 n140- 810 m/s - 84,25 mm
Nosler BST 168gr factory ammo - 845 m/s
but i did make it longer a little bit , from 84,15 to 84,25 mm ( 84,15 was factory )
Nosler AB 180gr-53gr-n550-835m/s-84,25mm
Nosler AB 165gr-56gr-n550-880m/s-84,25mm

I did shot 3 of each tipe and i was very satisfied for the results , groups was almost all in the same whole
So for each tipe ,the point of impact was the same
except that one fastest wich go only up 1 cm for 835 - 845 m/s and 2cm for 880m/s

I remember a year ago i was test hornady sst 165 gr with 56gr n550 = 905 m/s groups was also perfect.
Sst i was put it on the brass where start the mark ring arrownd the bulet , didn t mesure exactly.

I am in europe and all my mesure tipe are metric
If you want you can use internet to convert them.

I was get a post in england wich a guy did charge
Hornady Interbond 165gr - 56gr N550 - more than 900 m/s but his barrel was 24 , mine 22.

For me i have interest to shot maximum 650 m with this charges

In 2016 i was shut a bear to 590 meter with
That N BT 165 gr with 48,5 N140 charge

For that charge 600 meters was near maximum
I was shot it in the chest front and i was find the bulet on the stomach not inside

Was enough for kill the bear.

With 180gr N BT if i will get 850 m/s i can go a little bit far away

Also i was found a good charge for old barnes bulets tsx 165 gr with 58 gr N550 i think was 950 m/s without overpresure

I intend to play a little bit up only for
N BT 165 - 168 gr hope to get more than 925 m/s
and
N BT 180 gr - hope to get 850 - 860 m/s

The one thing that stands out after reading this whole thread to this point is the versatility of the 30-06. The fact that so many have had success with so many different bullets and weights is proof of this cartridge's well deserved reputation as a do-everything-pretty-well cartridge.

Bullets I've killed deer with in 30-06:
1. Sierra Game King boat tail 165 grain
2. Federal Pro Hunter flat base 165 grain
3. Nosler Ballistic Tip 150 grain
3. Hornady SST 125 grain
4. Federal Fusion 170 grain
5. Hornady Interlock 165 grain

Have used a 150gr TSX over H4985 for years pushing close to 3k, with 100yd cloverleafs and drops whitetail in their tracks. Have switched to 180 TTSX and H4350 for anything in N.A.
For target work I stick with German Salazar's tried and true pushing 190 SMK just over 2700. I have daydreams about switching to Warner Flat Lines and Hammer Hunters but don't have the time or inclination to make the jump right now.

Mostly because it's what I had on hand when I originally got the rifle (1979 Remington M700 Classic), 165 Hornady SST/H4350 in RP cases at 2850, and a milder load of 150 Sierra Pro Hunter/H4350 in old (61-64 headstamp) LC Match cases at 2750. Both are effective on deer and hogs here in Texas. The same gun shoots factory Remington 150gr Core Lokt accurately at over 2900fps.

The only .30-06 I've got a load worked up for is my M-1 Garand. It loves the 168 grain Nosler Custom Competition with a mild load of Varget. With iron sights I've shot a few 1.5" five shot groups.

I'm about to figure out a load for my Winchester Model 70. Probably will go with Varget and 165 grain Nosler Partitions.

A slower burning powder than Varget would be my choice for 165s in a 30-06 bolt gun. I.e. something in the 4350 burn rate class at +/- 57 gr.
