Spent a lot of time climbing around in mountains in the west chasing critters and this was a first. Hunted Colorado third season again this year saw quite a few decent bucks finally found one we might take. He was bedded asleep with a few girls around him probly 2000 yards away so it was going to take a while to get closer and also had a nasty wind to contend with. As my buddy and I got to where we needed to be I crawled up to locate the deer and while glassing where I thought they would be it was an ahhh s--t moment. There was a BIG citty sneaking in within 30 yrds of the deer and just when I located the boy that friggin cat pounced and blew it up thank god he wasn't successful but needless to say that was that.

That is one of the reasons I always get tags for mountain lions and wolves here in MT.

Unfortunately, I witnessed a similar experience. I joined a good friend on his once in a lifetime sheep hunt in the Frank Church. He was dialed, prone and steadying himself as the cat was closing a few last steps. As he broke the shot the cat pounced a second earlier and the sheep lurched forward (hit him far back as both the ram and the cat went blazing down the mountain).

He drew blood, never found the sheep and elected not to try for another one (scarce resource).

Stupid cats!!

Yea I've seen quite a few over the years usually they've seen me before I saw them. Watched one follow another hunter down a ridge trailing him probably less than 40 yards for a bit before my partner could get to him to inform him of the situation. SCARY
