What about the error of a slightly miss aligned scope? I am also guilty of settling for a non perfect sight in zero. What size error does this open up when shooting 500 to 1000?

A slight misalignment doesn't seem to effect accuracy at 500-1000 yards but you could easily enough confirm alignment by running a tall test with your maximum range at the top of the plumbed target line.
