First Elk

Howdy all -
Just got back from my 3rd elk hunt with my FIRST Elk Kill! Respectable 5x5 shot in the Glenwood Canyon, unit 444. 220y heart shot on opening day of first rifle season. 300 win mag, 180gr Nos Accubond, 73gr IMR4350, 3130 fps muzzle. Bottom pic is the recovered bullet from behind the far shoulder under the skin. Bullet weight 180.0 gr when I loaded it on Oct 6, 2019. Ended up weighing 124.2 gr afterword. Elk was recovered less than 5 yards from where I shot him.

Congrats nothing dinner than an elk roast in the crock pot

They are all trophies, (most are) tasty as well. Congrats on a job well done. Especially the tractor "pack"

Nicely done. Great shot and great pics.
I head out for elk camp 0300 Sunday for 9 days. I hope there is some success. This story got me primed.

Nice bull, especially since he's your first. Some mighty fine eating for you and the family. Memories of the hunt will come flooding back whenever you reach in your freezer. Enjoy!!!

Congrats. Nice to read about peoples success. I would have been jeading to MT on Wednesday, but had spinal disc replacement surgery 4 weekd ago. And got a tear in my left rotary cuff 2 weeks ago. No hunting of any sort for me this year.
Enjoy this great God given opportunity we have to enjoy the great outdoors. Age and evil forces (liberals) are trying to take it away from us every minute.
