Finally got one!

Congratulations to your daughter. Does she get to keep the Ruger No.1?
Boy! THAT hurts! 😂 LOL!

Yes, of course.
The wife still loves the outdoors, but at her age, she doesn't care for the cold and early mornings. She will still go with me on warm afternoon hunts, but doesn't care about shooting a deer.
Her family weren't hunters, so I "kinda" introduced her to venison!
She's always loved the stuff....and so do I!

NOW!
If I eat much red meat, I'm in bed or my recliner for 2 or 3 weeks with a gout attack!
SO....if I can kill one deer, I have all the red meat I care to try in a year.
I make mostly ground meat and of course, butterflyed loins!

Due to shoulder surgery, I can no longer comfortably shoot "fixed action"* rifles. I need a soft shooting semi auto....so I've graduated (?) to an AR in 6.8mm Rem SPC. Even with it, a sight in session on the range gets uncomfortable if I try to shoot more than 20 or 30 rounds.
Thankfully, I only need one for a deer! 😉

Congratulations to both of you ,and may you both have many more successful hunts to come ,oh and have a happy Thanksgiving.
Much to my dismay, I wasn't there for the event!
She lives in south Texas. I live in SE Oklahoma.
She was invited to hunt a friend's ranch that has a "tax exemption" (wildlife property) that requires they remove X number of deer from their property every year.
So basically, a "cull" hunt.

My youngest finally killed a deer!
She was ecstatic!

Rifle is a Ruger No.1 in .270 Win w/4× Redfield, using 130 grain Sierra SPBT hand loads. IIRC, the load was 48 grs of IMR4895.
Congratulations to the Young Lady's on her first deer……taking it with a " Classic Trifecta"…..a #1 Ruger, a 270 Win., and a 130 grain Sierra!
I couldn't figure out how to include the Redfield into my "Classic" comment! 😁 memtb

I suppose if the scope had been the "classic" Redfield 3-9×40 "Widefield", it would have stepped it up a touch! LOL!
When we went to pick out a scope, I laid out a couple of Leopold scopes and a couple of Redfield scopes. Pretty much the "cream o' th crop" in 1980. She picked out the Redfield fixed 4× without the "Widefield"!
Who knew?
Regardless, I've killed a ton of deer with the rifle despite the scope!
I started to upgrade (?) to a Leupold 3-9×40 VX-I but was met with a glare that would melt Superman!
She may no longer shoot the gun or hunt with it....BUT...... it's "HER" gun and shan't be tampered with! LOL!

"Widefield"…..that's what my little Winchester Model 88 wears to this day!

Similar with my wife. I keep wanting to make little changes to upgrade ( in my opinion) it…….. met with a resounding "NO"! memtb
