Yup, just as Brianc74 posted, it's blacking out the serial number. There are other threads on reasons its safer to hide the serial number for online posting of firearms so won't go in to detail here, but suffice it to say there are tools scanning posted firearms images for information.

I am glad I asked. I can also see why. Always a crooked element everywhere one goes today. Sad, as when I was a young man we never locked a door.
