Fed215M - For when you need the fire!

I'm using CCI 250's to light ~ 100 grains of N570...
Retumbo is notoriously more difficult to ignite big charges. Especially some batches.

I had no idea this would create such responses. My post was simply to let people know that certain primers are much better at handling certain powders and heavy charges than others. If you took it as an attack on your chosen primer, I'm sorry.

I did not take it as an attack as I have no favorite primer I was just saying they worked for me, and was shocked to hear they might not work for someone else but igniting as much powder as you do you are in a whole Nother league I don't have any experience with.

Any issues running these in some of the short mags?
During my .270 WSM load Development, I found that, my groups, shrank by about, a 1/4 to 3/8ths of, an inch at, 200 Yards using, the F-215's over, the Win Primers ( using, IMR 7828 Powder ).
I have previously used, the F-215 in, a 7 mm Rem Mag, .270 Wby and .338 Win Mag. all with GOOD Results on, Late Fall, Snowy, Elk Hunts in,..
Wyo., Idaho, Colorado. and Northern Ariz. ! Damp and Cold, Ammo but,.. ALWAYS, Fired !

When initially buying primers for a new 280AI I accidentally bought 1000 Fed 215. Worked up a load since many had posted they prefer them over 210's in the 280AI. Soon afterwards I came across and bought 2000 Fed 210's in case I couldn't find a good load with the 215's. That was all before the big shortage, or course, and had no idea the favor I was doing myself. Still working on finding out if the best 280AI load is going to be with the 215 or the 210.

Uh… you made no mention of small or large primer brass. So when you mentioned 215 primers I assumed it was large rifle primer brass

I was just enjoying a bit of internet humor. I actually use CCI450s in my Lapua SRP brass. It's everything else (non-mag) that I use the Federal 210Ms in. No offense intended.

I wasn't bashing your statement Orkan, just stating a fact that the Pressure Trace has backed up now for years. Both magnum and standard Winchester primers in both large and small are hotter than other brands.
I run cases 150+g of powder with Winchester STANDARD primers, not magnums. The powders are Retumbo, H50BMG, US869 and RE33.
All this "use a magnum primer if charges are above 75g" is horse muck. I'm using double that with standard primers with no trouble. Even sub zero C° temps.
The Fed215 was developed for Roy Weatherby because when he was doing low load density charge work up, he was getting hang fires and asked Federal to come up with a primer to stop this. In the end it wasn't necessary as he found the cases he wanted to use and stopped doing low load density charge testing.

Cheers.
