Fed215M - For when you need the fire!

This is for those that do not already know: Federal 215M's are hot. Some powders like retumbo in big magnum cases need a lot of fire to ignite reliably. Especially in cold weather! 300 Norma, 338 Lapua, and 375 Cheytac, to name a few. Hang-fires are the most obvious symptom of a weak primer... but even if ignition is reliable, it may not be consistent enough to provide the kind of accuracy and precision you might be after! Perhaps when the weather dips into the winter, it might not go bang at all!

So, just a public service announcement. Run the correct primer. If you're upwards of 75gr of powder, a CCI-250 might not work with certain powders.

I say test for BEST primer for your load & striking, as the target shows you.
And with this, you'll see reliability or lack of.

However, no point in trying to run a CCI-250 with a big charge of Retumbo. Never had it NOT hang fire.

I've been lighting 94 grains of retumbo with CCI 250s for years never had a problem

Never a problem

FOR ME, CCI 250's have ALWAYS worked better, and are more accurate, in MY guns than Fed 215M's have been

As bullets got better and cartridges more efficient, I have moved away from most of my magnum chambered rifles. The thought of lighting off 130gr of powder makes me cringe!

My problem is that I've got plenty of 215M primers and can't find any 210s for the cartridges I'm actually shooting. Anyone else firing off their Creedmoors with Fed 215s?

I'm using CCI 450 Magnum on my small primer 6.5 CM rounds, I don't see why 215M wouldn't work....try it
