500 yards changes everything. If you are really shooting that far at night, find models with a higher base magnification. You may need rangefinding capability.

I shot a Fusion Thermal rig at the Precision Rifle Expo a couple of years ago, hitting a small pig silhouette out to 1000 yards in daylight. It was impressive and would be heavily considered if/when I buy another. The owner and top staff were there and are very proud of what they have accomplished. Pride in a product.
Warranty and support are crucial. A good dealer who will help you with any issues. It's an investment. I have sent quite a few folks Fusion Thermal's way and have had no complaints.
