Favorite holiday traditions

Here in NW Florida Thanksgiving day is opening day for rifle hunting for deer so I've usually hunted Thanksgiving morning and returned home for a traditional Thanksgiving turkey.

This year I'm living alone for the first time so I'll probably hunt all day and come home and cook leg of lamb for me.

A friend has invited me to a squirrel perlou Friday evening and a lot of my hunting friends will be there so that will be my official Thanksgiving meal this year.

Family….the most important thing to me. My kids and grandkids all come to my home and we have a nice dinner. Usually basic turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, corn, beans etc plus some good desserts.
Thursday will be a great day and I love seeing my grandkids especially. I have 4…..1yr old, 2 are 3yrs old, and 1 5 yrs old.

I am VERY Thankful!

I just realized its been a while since I last posted. A long while!!! I got married Jan 1st 2023 and have been having such a good time that I have forgotten all my old friends. She is from Namibia Africa and for 20 years she and her husband conducted Safari so we have talked about going back to do a 30 day Safari. She is a 4 star cook. And my favorite tradition for Thanksgiving is a cup of great coffee and a piece of Pumpkin pie which I am enjoying NOW because she is in Africa currently and wont be here for Thanksgiving.

Chris - thanks for starting this thread. I enjoy reading other members posts.

Thanksgiving has changed over the years for me. Family get togethers were the norm for many years. A house full of family and friends with more food than should be ever consumed brings back some great memories. This year will be different as my mother in law is in the hospital after a severe stroke. She is 92 and has been the only surviving member of this generation in our immediate family. I'm still thankful to have one of my daughters to visit us this Thanksgiving.

There will be more than enough food and beverages again this year. Reflecting on my many blessings and praying for comfort of those less fortunate will be my priority this holiday.

We will go to our Son and Daughter-in-law. Our Grandkids will be home from college. Will have a great dinner and discuss hunting plans for next year. Whether we are going to elk hunt out of state and what tags we are going to apply for in state. Happy Thanksgiving to all. Have a great day.

Having family and dear friends come and visit. Some come to hunt around my house, Ruts on big time, so I'm really popular.
Other family members i only see once or twice a year.

Had a close friend and his nine year old son here hunting this morning. They had an encounter with a very large ten point at close range, but as rutting bucks do, he didn't read the script. Then later on the morning another eight point showed up, looked around for about ten seconds, didn't see anything he liked and was gone before the young man could get settled.
Hunting deer around Thanksgiving is a precious gift here. Something we never take for granted.

Every year we celebrate Thanksgiving in the mountains helping youth on cow elk hunts. I have a few buddies and we all have kids. In New Mexico if a kid doesn't draw a tag then they can buy a youth encouragement elk tag. This year, my son drew an antelope tag so he wasn't able to get the cow elk tag but my other buddies still were able to get their kids tags and we all still go and have dinner in the mountains. Get up early and then go hunt.

Not a tradition, but thanks to timing of Arizona Late Rifle Elk Season, we're having Thanksgiving tomorrow and then starting Bull Elk hunt on Friday morning. Wish it could be like this every year!!

Thanksgiving is the holiday that we have set aside to thank our Almighty God for all the Graces and Blessings He has bestowed on each of us. It's a day when the family gathers to remember the past year and pray for an awesome coming year. It is also the time when we consume the harvest of our labors, and smell the tantalizing aromas that come from the kitchen as the Thanksgiving meal is prepared. It is also that time of the year when for a few days anterless deer are harvested here in Texas. I have often wondered if this holiday was conceived so that we could take advantage of the fall deer hunt or elk hunt. Whatever the case may be, it truly is a time of family and friends sharing happiness and joy! May you all have a wonderful and Blessed Thanksgiving!!

We have the yearly family get together we've been doing for 50+ years. My wife's grandmother is Norwegian so two Norwegian dishes are served at our Thanksgivings in Missouri. They were passed to her mom, onto her and so on. They are Lefse and Klub. Good stuff and everyone wants it!!
