Favorite holiday traditions

This year will be a little different. My best friend and hunting partner passed away last Saturday, so no hunting this year for me. I am spending time in with my family, cooking, and just enjoying all of the things that I am thankful for.

Spending Thanksgiving at deer camp this year with my wife, son and myself. Trying to fill some unfilled deer tags. Dinner this year will be the wild turkey that I harvested this spring then a little football. Go Lions. Been a long time waiting for them to be this good. And I mean a long time as I am 72. lol. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

We get to hangout with family. I appreciate that we can do it on two different days instead of two big meals in one day. Hunting stories are told. I'm usually talking about firearms of some sort. My kids love to play Catch Phrase with their cousins and I always get pulled in somehow!

Friday evenings are them taken over by getting ready for opening PA deer season. I usually hunt on my in-laws property. Both my kids have been fortunate enough to take their first bucks on that property.

My traditional Thanksgiving is pretty much lost. Both of my parents have passed and my kids are both 900 miles away. They come back for Christmas. I don't have any family close by any longer. The passing of time has changed all of that.
It used to be a big family event but now pretty much just another day

Greetings everyone. Please know that I offer the following respectfully and only with good intentions. Hopefully this site will allow.

Wife and I are invited to 2 Thanksgiving dinners which we will attend. I've been asked to offer grace at both dinners. I composed and offer you the following prayer.

Dear Lord,

On this holiday, you may be looking at who you created and ask, do we still believe in you? Do we still have faith in you?

Lord……imperfect as I am…..this tired soul is asking you, please hear me.

Don't give up on us and allow me to tell you why we are grateful.

For Jesus' messages of kindness, forgiveness and loving…..those messages that fill the hearts and strengthen the will of those who worship you……..We are grateful.

For the early dawn's peace that gladdens and comforts us….we must never take a single one for granted…bestowed upon us by our veterans and those across the world who made the ultimate sacrifice……..We are grateful.

For the security and safety provided by those in uniform who proudly stand guard….in our neighborhood and around the world…….We are grateful.

For our children and their children….that You have opened the door to their brighter future……We are grateful.

We in America, Israel and our Allies…..for the opportunities and prosperity coming………that You answered our prayers and hope has returned………We are grateful.

For the loving friendships You've graciously presented us….the sharing of Your gift around this table………We are grateful.

On this blessed day of joyous appreciation, we are deeply, deeply THANKFUL…..that America may once again be one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

When we lived in California, my wife and I would usually travel to Sonoma county to have dinner with her family. After we moved to Utah we did not travel there (or for Christmas) as often. This year, after 40 years, I decided I was not going to California for either holiday and my wife agreed. To me the most important thing is to be with my wife. For Thanksgiving we're having dinner with friends and haven't decided what we will do for Christmas yet. But we will put up our Christmas tree tomorrow (Thanksgiving). We do hold an annual Christmas party here at our house and invite 34 friends each year. This year it will be December 14.

Usually it family food and football! This year is a little different same family food and football but I'm also gearing up to help a young disabled kid and his family on his first elk hunt . So I'm trying to get my trailer ready without making my neighbors upset. I'm making a 4/5 hour drive Friday to set the first trailer and talk with everyone . Then I'm back home for work on Monday then back pulling my sxs up for the hunt on Wednesday . The youngster is super excited. The hunt starts next Friday!

Spending time with Family , My Mother is 88 and time with her is short, Wife's parents both passed this year cherish each day with family we never know when it's our last.

Well for me and my Small family we head to my In laws for Thanksgiving. Both my parents passed a few years ago along with my brother so it's just my in laws left. No deer hunting here in NJ for me till Monday when early season Muzzleloader season kicks in.
So it's what's left of family getting together to eat watch football play some games and relaxing.
When i had my DD. (Drahthaar) I would do a quick pheasant hunt followed by Quail then head home. But my beloved Sasha is long gone now RIP. It's more of a relaxing time with family

Thanksgiving will be celebrated with the kids and grandkids. Friday flying out to Phoenix for the Arizona State LR match.

It's fun to go aboard the USS Midway - berthed in downtown San Diego - and see all the Navy Jets on Deck. I wore the AF uniform but later was Deputy Counsel for MSCPAC/Port of Oakland/Alameda NAS - and we had civilian mariners forthe Olers/Underway Replenishment - and Cargo (and Spy) ships. Like them both. ALL HAIL.

We have the yearly family get together we've been doing for 50+ years. My wife's grandmother is Norwegian so two Norwegian dishes are served at our Thanksgivings in Missouri. They were passed to her mom, onto her and so on. They are Lefse and Klub. Good stuff and everyone wants it!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all..
Since my in-laws passed in early 2000's, our house has been the unofficial family center for all my wife's relatives. She's the middle child of seven. There'll be about 45 people at our house including my daughters and grandkids, bil's, sil's, nieces, nephews, etc. Of course we have the usuall traditions, my wife cooks a dressing, a ham and a turkey or two, and other family bring sides and casseroles.
One of the traditions I started and is now expected is my venison strips. I cook deer steak and tenderloin strips in my own marinade, strain it off to make a thin gravy with the juice, then put in a crockpot to keep warm. I also put some in another crock pot with a thin BBQ sauce. I usually cook about 4 to 6lbs of meat and there's usually none left. Another expected tradition is shooting targets from my back deck on my little private range.
