After seeing all the posts about South Africa hunts being cheaper than putting in for tags stateside I have been scouring the internet for different options. I have 7 children, and my 3rd child will be a senior in High School this coming year, and I'm thinking a hunting trip to South Africa would be an amazing senior trip/father son time.

I have seen many Safari groups offer father/son packages, and I have been looking at Blaauwkrantz Safari's, but honestly I have no experience in any of this. I like the idea of a 6 day 12 animal hunt, and it would be nice to take African game with our rifles. I have many suitable calibers, but nothing too big. What would be the minimal cartridge that you would take?

I have a Schultz & Larson 7x61 S&H that I would like to take, but I only have 5 7x61S&H stamped cases (The rest are 7x61Super stamped).
I also have an 8.6BLK, but no head stamped cases.

What are some good outfitters? What would be your must have's before you leave? Would you rent rifles there? Travel hints? Trophy shipment back home issues (I would Euro Mount everything)? Etc. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Lots of good questions. First thing is to go over to afrucanhunting.com and join. A number of members here are also members there. Then start reading. Look at hunt reports. That will give you a good idea of how different outfitters hunt. Decide which country that you want to hunt. To a degree that is predicated by your most wanted animals. Then ask questions about that particular country.
For instance I've never had RSA look at headstamps on cartridges. Never even look at them. Zambia could be a different story. Good luck.

Thank you. I've read a lot, but there is also a lot to learn. I'll go over to African hunting and read away.

I have only gone with Trophy Game Safari (5 times now) and have no desire to ever try anyone else. If we decide to hunt in a different part of Africa I will still go with them, letting them take care of the logistics. We are currently planning trips for 2025 and 2026.

I recommend Trophy Game Safari with confidence that you and your family will be well taken care of from beginning to end of your trip. Including food, lodging, transportation, and the hunt. They don't make any promises that can't be kept.
