Er shaw customs vs rechambering tikka

Thinking about a 223 AI. I like the Tikka Varmint with the adjustable stock.

Plusses for the Tikka: 1. adjustable composite stock. 2. Could buy a used rifle and just shoot .223 until I have it rechambered. 3. $$, especially initial layout
Minus for the Tikka: 8" twist may not be enough for heavier/longer bullets.

Pluses for the Shaw: 1. 7" twist available in 26" barrel. 2. Trued action. 3. That fluted barrel looks awesome.
Minuses for the Shaw: 1. lack of adjustable composite stock. 2. 10 month wait. By that time the 6.5 Creedmore may have made everything else obsolete . 3. Have to start reloading sooner.

Thoughts? Anybody got a Shaw?

Question on fireforming brass: best to use once fired and/or annealed, or just get factory 223 with decent brass and shoot it?

I bought one for my father for Christmas a few years back. I have to say it's very impressive for the price. Shoots incredible for the factory ammo he shoots. I have a Shaw barrel on my 6x45 I had them do and that shoot well also.

Anything in particular? I already know I don't like the stock. Not crazy about the blind magazine, either.

How's it shoot? At that price I would expect .5 MOA.

It's 24" bull in an AR platform. Tried bullets from 55gr to 75gr, 4 kinds of powder. Best I can do is about .9-1 moa. Not impresssed.

Heck I get much less than that out of my fathers 6.5 with factory ammo. It was around .5" if I remember. If it warms up I'll go to the range and gets some groups with pictures.

Everything is worth a try. Once heck one of my best shooters is a cheap psa blem parts .300 blk. I was very surprised.
Heck I have a friend who bought a savage axis and cheaper Redfield scope. Has about $550 into the whole thing and with factory ammo can cover a 5 shot group with a nickel. It opens up more at 300 yards but still well under moa. Always baffles me and sometimes hurts my feeling when he shoots next to me with my customs.

Got a bad shoulder so looking for something easier to shoot. Might keep the 270 and get a decent 223, or get rid of the 270 and get a nice 243. Maybe see if 224 Valkyrie is still around in a year or so.

6.5 CM is also an option. Really like the idea of boatloads of cheap ammo with the 223, though.

Had 2 6mm remington shaw barrels. neither shot.
Had 2 6.5-06 barrels, both shot very well.
recently got a 5.45x39 shaw barrel. Shoots beyond bad - I think they used a 5.56 blank, and their "customer service" won't return calls.

May I suggest a look at the 6.5 Grendel.
I do love the .243 and the creed. But recoil is very soft for the Grendel and ammo can be had cheap. I just ordered another in howa mini action.

The grendel is ok.... But ya do need a longer barrel to enjoy longer ranges. I had one with a short barrel and coulnt get over 2400fps with 123grain bullet so i got rid of it. A 22 inch or longer barrel if it were me and i was going grendel. I just saw The mini in the howa book. That would be fun to try.
