Ive been applying since the program started. No luck yet but always hopeful. Not sure if it increases my chances or not, apply for any elk,any area. 60yo sw Pa guy

Well fellas, being from a state that has an elk population and I get to hunt them every year I can tell you it is getting harder and harder to get an elk in Montana as well. We have several trophy districts and I apply every year, have since the early 90's when I moved here and have yet to draw. It took 23 years to draw a Mountain Goat tag but I can tell you it was well worth it when I got the tag. You can't win if you don't play. Good Luck.

I drew a bull tag in 04, went the DYI route even though I live 120 miles one way from the elk range. 5 weeks of scouting resulted in a 407" 7x7 with 56" main beams and 51" wide. I understand that you have to play to win,
Among my family of 5 we have roughly 61-65 ish pints for the drawing. The toughest part of the hunt is getting drawn. If by some remote someone in my crew gets drawn, we would hire the guys from the Elk County outfitters.
Great bunch of guys that have been killing elk since the first Pa season.

You can't get drawn if you dont apply but I feel like you have better odds at being struck by an meteorite. My buddy continues to apply and encourages me too but I haven't brought myself to do it even though I'm relatively close. There are monsters there for sure. Best wishes

Shouldn't the PA game commission be working for the sportsmen, sportswomen of PA!!!! Instead of annual salary increases they should be relocating elk herds around the state so everyone can enjoy the prospect of seeing and hunting them!!!! I hunted PA for the first time last year with my son we loved it!!!!

I've heard of instances where the PAGC has captured and relocated elk back into the established elk range. For some reason the west branch of the Susquehanna river seems to be slowing their southern migration. They are fairly abundant to that point. A few have ventured past it, but they don't seem to stick around. Also the elk are primarily in the areas with lower deer densities. Some theorize that the tag allocations were to reduce the competition between elk and deer. I do wish they were spread and not so concentrated.
