Eld-x in 6.5

Thanks, that rifle shoots very good.
I did need to make a correction from my post. I dialed 9 Moa at 554 yards, not the 14 Moa, just in case anyone noticed I typed the wrong amount. I shot some steel at 710 that required 14 Moa.

I am waiting on my 143's to arrive here in northern Virginia. I got a "we're trying" note where UPS is whining about the weather... (it was a pretty fair storm this weekend). I want to try these in my 8-twist 260. I have been shooting 142 MK's, but, would like a better terminal package for hunting game. We will see.

Anybody tried these with 4831-sc in a 260? I will report what I find when the UPS truck finds me.

thanks rch

I just picked some up yesterday I have been shooting amax's in my 260 with 4831 sc and they shoot very well. I'm thinking about using the same load in these, but I may load my 6.5-284 first

Got in 500 143 gr VLD-X from Brownell's. Loaded 3 each 46.0, 46.3 and 46.5 gr 4831-sc with a .010 jump for use in my 8t 26" 260 Rem. Only shot at 100, but all grouped under .75". Not spectacular, but, didn't blow anything up either.

Anybody have a good feel for "jumping" these.

thanks in advance.

I started a load test today with my 6.5 creedmoor using h4350 and the 143 ELD-x. Found a nice little node at 42.5. Had me worried for a while as I was struggling producing better groups than the factory match ammo hornady makes with the 140 ELD. Wind conditions could have been better. I was jumping them 40 Thousands (2.855 OAL). Av 2784, ES 2182, SD 8.60. I plan to try a touch more powder when I get time. I didn't see difference in groups when loading 20 thou off. has anyone tried Superformance or H4831?

Jeremy,
I have used Retumbo in my 6.5x284 with Berger 140 gr VLD's. This load at .075" off the lands, 59.0 grains Retumbo with Wolf magnum primers gives me 2990 fps with a 24" barrel.

With the Hornady ELD-X 143's, I am doing a jump test first at .010", .020", .030" and .040" off the lands with a charge of 56.5 grains Retumbo and CCI BR2 primers.
I know this does not follow Berger's thought process for seating depth adjustment, but I don't want to give up case powder volume.

Once I find the best bullet seating adjustment, I am going to work up towards 59.5 grains to find my max pressure load.

I will post my results when I finally get out shooting again.gun)
