Eberlestock vs. Cabela's Outfitter Pack

Yeah, I can tell you like it. I'm real happy with my eberlestocks for hunting packs to. I have a mini-me, a J34, and ordered a new Gunrunner today. It looks like it might be the perfect daypack for me. 1800cu of space for clothes and gear with a narrow design line the mini-me for when I want to carry my rifle slung. It weighs only 3.5lbs also which I like. It won't pack meat like the Just One packs, but I don't need it to for much of my hunting. If I like this new pack as much as I think I will I'll probably sell the mini-me.

Sounds good, I'll pm you if I decide to sell it. My other one should be in within a week so I can try it.

I received my Gunrunner about a week ago. The size and features are great. The hip belt and shoulder straps are very light weight. Not like their other packs at all. I'm going to load it up and try it out this weekend. Since the shoulder straps and hip belt are so light, the rifle scabbard flops around a bit. Also the compression straps squeeze the scabbard closed if you put much tension on them. Unlike the J107 where they don't squeeze the scabbard shut, I don't know how easy it's going to be to pull rifle out if the pack is secured well. I've only had it out in the backyard so far.

I ended up returning the Gunrunner. The hip belt and shoulder straps wouldn't extend enough to fit when wearing a heavy coat. Also it wasn't very stable with a rifle in the scabbard.

I received my LoDrag yesterday. Much better! Less than 2 lbs heavier but comes with full size hip belt and vertically adjustable shoulder straps. It also has the larger scabbard like on the Gunslinger II, fits my LR-308 or Rem 700 SA 26" with 6.5 X 20 and bipod.

Operator or the Gunslinger II... My problem with civilain packs is organization.. I like to reach in and find exactly what I want... Ammo, knives, cleaning kit, food, stove, etc... Both the Gunslinger II and the Operator were recommended to me from guys in my old Special Forces Company.. I am a believer in the Operator..

When it comes to packing out an entire animal, back to the old bull and the young one.. we all know how the old bull works...

Not sure of your question. If you are asking if the scabbard on the LoDrag is the same as the Gunslinger II or the Operator then the answer is "yes". All three have the same size scabbard. The LoDrag does not have the clean-out zipper on the bottom of the scabbard though. The LoDrag is a much smaller pack than either of the other two - 2,300 CI vs 2,900 CI for the Gunslinger II. The LoDrag is a big day pack that could carry some boned-out meat. It's not built to pack out an elk, etc. I also have a J107 Dragonfly. It's built to pack out a lot of meat, etc.

I'm happy with the LoDrag as far a size and features. It's built more robust than the Gunrunner and is priced accordingly. I've already sent the Gunrunner back or I'd post a picture of the two side by side.

As far as pack organization, the LoDrag has some. It is both a panel loader and a top loader. It has a removable divider between the two compartments. There is a mesh pocket inside of the top lid, two water bladder type pockets and two document or laptop pockets all in the top half. The bottom is all open. There are two adjustable water bottle type pockets on the outside. Plenty of molle webbing all of the pack, inside and out. I think the key to organization is lots of small and medium stuff sacks. Hope this helps.

I got my gunrunner in and like it, but as you guys said it's not perfect. I like that it is narrow enough to be comfortable when carrying a rifle slung over my shoulder instead of in the scabbard, and the strap on the bottom to tuck the scabbard bottom up out of the way. In mixed terrain where I may jump something close I like my rifle slung and my bogpod or rapid pivot bipod in the scabbard.

I would like a bigger hip belt to fit with more clothing on. My biggest problem with it is that when you have the rifle in the scabbard and everything is snugged down, then you draw the rifle, the pack flops side to side and the scabbard is noisy. There is no way to take up the slack left by removing the rifle, and something needs to be inside the scabbard to keep it quiet. I put a bungie around the top of the pack, right above the shoulder harness, and it stopped it for now. I'd hate to draw the rifle to finish a stalk and have the noisy material inside the scabbard give me away. I don't have this problem with my other two packs, and the strap should fix this one. All in all, I like the pack and will use it alot once I get it modified. I'm going to take it to the saddle shop that fixes my tack and have him sew me on another compression strap on the top of the pack and extend the hip belt. I looked at the lodrag but for me I think if I want that much pack I will just take my J34. It's a little heavier, but it sure fits me well.

A lot of the same impressions. It's not a bad pack, it just wasn't what I needed/wanted. Before you alter your hipbelt, I ordered an extension strap and the correct buckle for the Gunrunner hipbelt. The Eberlestock lady had to special order the buckle because it's nonstandard. I received it after I had already returned the pack. If you want to go that route I can fix you up instead of returning them to Eberlestock. Let me know if you're interested.

definitely interested, PM sent

I have many different packs and the Alaskan Guide from Cabelas is a Great Pack. Ive used it many times. When it comes down to what your using it for. You cant go wrong with it.

last year i bought a dragon fly eberlestock and I wan't overly impressed by its meat packing abilities. Its a great pack to hunt with but if you are packing meat its hard to beat the cabelas frame pack. I had a friend custom fit a eberlestock scabbard to my frame pack and now I am on to somethine

Eberlestock was awesome on my recent sheep hunt. The gun pocket is great and it w comfortable even with the added weight with meat and horns packing out at over 70 lbs
