DPMS 260 issues?

oh my! I was going to post how auto's can be tough on brass....until i saw that second pic!!!wow that sucks. Should not look like that. I'd try a different brand just for kicks, but wow I think u got a turd on your hands.

As far as response, I have heard that they listen to their distributors better than individuals. see if you can find a shop that is more involved than your local ffl

Thanks! It was purchased through a large local sports store. A mini Cabelas if you will. Retail was paid. My friend (rifle owner) is going to e-mail them today with these pics I took. I think he is going to ask for a new rifle. In my mind, that is what needs to happen.

The rifle owner has sent an e-mail to DPMS Oct 6th. In it he told them the history of the rifle again and included the pics of the chewed up brass from last weekend. He also told them of the 3 to 4" accuracy and that that didn't bother him as much as the condition of the ejected brass. I will hold back my comment on the accuracy.:) As of today,Oct 9th they have not replied. And remember, I was told I would get an update call in the afternoon or the next day..... they never called. We have researched and find a lot of good reviews on the DPMS rifles. I would sure like to think this one is a fluke and they will take care of it. I feel a company is only as good as their service. They might be very busy, but if the product is that good, how much warranty repairs can they have?? If this is the only one, it sure would be easy to catch up on the repairs.

Jeff

That would **** me off Broz.
I would seriously start chewing *** on the customer servive rep all the way up the ladder.
I'm really surprised they are overlooking this problem.

I hear ya GD. The sad part is. I really took some interest in this rifle. My last experience with the semi auto's was back in the 80's when AR15's and Mini 14's were popular. I got away from them cuz most of them shot so bad. I was excited to get to be part of breaking in, and sight in of what I have heard was one of these new "accurate" semi auto's.

Well, so far........ I guess I will look at other options for a PD rifle.

Wow...this is scary. I just bought a DPMS in .260 and I am going to try to shoot it for the first time tomorrow if it doesnt snow. I have some 142gr Sierra handloads to try so I will post my results as soon as I am able to get out there.

How does the mouth of the case look?
Can you see rifling on the front edge?

I could see where over pressure would extrude material into the ejector, but not smearing it!
The case is being held in place as the bolt head is rotating!

I know nothing about your rifle, but it would seem to be a lockup issue, the case is jammed into the rifling, or a timing issue!
I'll be interested in what the cause is.

edge.

Report from the range. I just fired my new LR-260 for the first time and used my own load and it was under a quarter inch. If I new how to post a pic I would. I could not be happier, it was just a load to start with developement and I dont need to change a thing! You cant beat that huh? It is a little warm I think cause I do have extractor marks, but I bet if I install one of Tubb's carrier weights it will go away. The only downer is that I forgot my chronograph.

I have a LR260 dpms that is a very good shooter but with factory ammo the same thing happens. I see no sign on my reloads with max loads of h414 and 139 lapua's .
The pic's looked like my factory ammo brass. I wonder if maybe the factory ammo is loaded to hot for our rifles???

It could be factory is to hot, I would be curious what they would chrono. The load I used was a max load with H4350 and 142 Sierra's and I know it was hot and it showed with extractor marks. I am sure that it can be cured with Tubb's CWS and a different spring which I ordered and will have by Monday. The weight and spring will increase lockup time and will help with velocities and probably eliminate the extractor marks, especialy with the heavy bullets. I will let you know how that works out.

I'm really sorry to hear about your luck. Don't let one bad apple ruin your opinion of DPMS. I know it's easier for me to say that since it wasn't my money, but I am on my second DPMS and am quite happy with it. I used to have a 308B that shot around 1/2" at 100 and now I have a sweet 16 223 that I'm still breaking in the barrel on. DPMS makes a heck of a good rifle, but you must have gotten a lemon.

i bought one in the 204 about a month ago and i was having problems with ejector marks also.i shot about ten shots of factory i had given to me and used them to get my scope zeroed.the first load i started i noticed as i hit about 3350 fps(i think about 25 gr varget) i started getting the ejector marks.i dropped back to 35.5 and they arent thtere.i am a long long ways from may pressure but the first 5 shot group i put thru it with my loads a 24.5 (40 gr berger) shot .6"!even with the crappy trigger that has 43 miles of creep.i was very impressed with the group for my first semi auto.i dont even really care that im not getting all the muzzle velocity i should.i dont really want to load up and ruin my brass.i would like to hear the reasoning for that when u find out!
