I have a SAKO L61R in .338 Win Mag that I got for some Long Range shooting.
HOWEVER-- THe SAKO has the Dovetail integral bases and the L/R scope, 6 x 25 has big tube 35mm Weaver type rings. I need to get a weaver or Picatinny rail mounted on the Dovetails. Gunsmith here says he won't drill the Dovetails to install the rail, says its too thin?
ANy ideas?

Do not drill ther dovetails unless you want to decrease the value of gun about 50%.

Leupold makes a Sako super high dovetail ringmount that may clear the scope objective.
I would check it out. Measure from half the objecxtive lens to top of barrel and compare with the Leupold chart.

Thanks for the input. My problem has been that I have a 35mm tube and no one makes the rings to fit the Dovetail so I have to go the other way and get the Dovetails to Weaver or Picatinny.
After a week of seaerching every conceivable shearch string I FOUND IT!!
I spoke to the owner today and they are on their way.
SAKO Tactical 1913 Picatinny Bases

IF anyone needs to convert a Dovetail to aomething that will take a Weaver, this is is.
