Does anyone hunt with 22-250 anymore?

I have had more 22-250's than any other rifle beside 22lr. In Iowa it is one of the most useful rifles. Just threw a barrel on a Savage yesterday and took out some reloads I did to work up for a different rifle. Found a good option.
Next will do another 22-250Ackley.

just got my first .22-250 deer this year. 1:8" tikka t3x, 70gr hammer hunters @ 3,250fps. can push faster but that node is crazy accurate with IMR-4166. Also shoots well under moa with 85gr RDFs and H4350 at just under 3,100. eventually i'll shoot up all my RDFs and play with the 85.5 bergers.

maybe i need to consider having it re-chambered to the ackley version... do you buy brass or just fireform what you have?

Fireform, no brass made for 22-250 Ackley. Great thing is you can still use standard 22-250 ammo when needed or while fireforming and it will shoot awsome.

What is the stock and the velocity!!

I use both my .22-250 handguns on deer permits in & near housing developments (with game warden permission). A 40 gr. Nosler BT in one shoulder drops or lets them run a few yards with no exit. This same bullet in ID on rockchucks causes them to do 3-5 complete revolutions. The 5 flipper was at the heigth of a telephone pole.!

Ha! That may be the case at your adobe, but there is nary a Creedmoor in mine. Thus, indeed, the 22-250's do get a workout, from hunting deer with an 8 twist to the 14 twist varmint rifles, both here and out west on the prairies.

Ahahahaha - I'm sure you realize that I was just poking fun at the old cartridge.

My very first PA groundhog rifle was a Rem 40X in 22-250. It served me well for many. many years. The action was eventually rebuilt into a custom 22-243AI and is currently a 6mmBR.

MDMILLER,
I believe I had the wrong bullet weight as my go to is a 52 or 53 grain Sierra usually. Should be right around 3400-3500fps. To cold to drag out my Chronograph.
The stock and riser hardware I built, 3pc cherry laminate. its going to loose some weight soon, just refine it more as I left it bulky to shoot for a while and figure out what I like and don't like. I built a duplicator a few years ago and will dupe it for a couple other bench builds. Don't compete, fun or prairie dog builds.
Just rebuilt the bolt head today, try to get rid of the random odd flyer. Firing pin had a lot of slop so punched the bolt out, bushed it then fit everything and trued the bolt.

This wasn't my bolt but was just as sloppy. First pic is mine done.

Sure do, but couldn't resist!!!! I love the 22-250, fast twist 220 Swift and fast twist .223. I always wanted a 40x but never found one so I just rebuilt a standard 700. What sort of velocities did you get out of the 22-243AI, twist? I have to say I would own a .22 Creed in a heartbeat....

My favorite load for the 22-243AI 8 twist was as follows:

243 Lapua case necked down
Fed 210M primer
RE 22
Hornady 75gr A-Max (moly) @ 3,670 ft/sec.

That load shot an incredible group of .625" at 600yds. It was very effective on fat PA groundhogs out to 1,000 yds.
