Within the next 2 years 25-26 my brother wants to do a DIY deer hunt (whitetail or mule deer)…not looking for anyone's special spot, just wondering what states are ones we need to consider? We live in PA so would consider anything on the east but likely prefer a Midwest/western hunt. Things to consider would be ease of getting tags and amount of public access. Any help or suggestions greatly welcome.

If looking for whittail, I don't think I would bother leaving the state.
I've taken a few big body does & bucks here. (I live in PA also)
I wanted to do an elk hunt this year, but vehicle repairs and getting laid off put the kabash on that.

I have shot some decent bucks here too. The hunt is as much or maybe more about experience and something new than actually harvesting a deer. With that said filling a tag is a big bonus.
Thanks for your suggestion and sorry to hear about the lay off. Been there done that, not the best feeling in the world

Ohio is good and it's right next door to us.
I have hunted a couple spots and would share the general area with you.

Kentucky would be a good option also.
