I have never seen anything like this. Custom dies purchased through rifle builder. Trying to use the seating die with no luck.

In this pic this a comparison of a 300 WM die, with a loaded round inside. The silver die is the 300 norm improved with the riflesmioth supplied dummy round inside of it.

As you can see the NMI die is backed out as far as it can go in every adjustment. The case will not go further into the die body. The die will not even fit into a Forster press (by quite a ways) and needless to say there is no room to seat the bullet out further than it is now.

I am at a loss as to what is going on here.

Thoughts?

looks like a Hornady seating die. they are somewhat universal within a caliber of choice. the case is not suppose to go all the way into the die, it just supports the neck when seating bullets.

I would lean towards the case body hanging up in the die sleeve for some reason. Have you tried holding the die in place on the dummy round and screwing the micrometer down till you feel it stop (meaning the seating stem is actually making contact with the bullet)?

Or pull the micrometer off and seating stem out completely and see what the case looks like slid into the die body?

there is no body sleeve in a Hornady die. the case is not suppose to go all the way in like other dies
