Deforming Nozler Accubond bullet tips

I have compressed a lot of powders since I started handloading some 57 years ago. I never deformed a bullet like the OP's picture shows, even with ball powders.

The new brass might need to be prepped by just chamfering the inside neck. Looking at the expanded picture, some minor shaving is evident at the bullet/case mouth juncture.

It is possible that the inside neck diameter is too small. Measuring will determine that.

Otherwise, have you considered using a Lyman M die?

Just for the record, I have never sized new brass. I surmise that if the factory can load them, I can too.

Looking at the tip of the bullet it looks like your die completely changed the diameter of that bullet up top and down to where the ring stops. It looks like it contacted it up high and then modified the bullet tip dimension drastically. You mentioned you put the original seating plug back in. Did you mistakenly put the wrong seating plug back in. If not then I'm thinking the wrong caliber bullet here as that deformation is extreme and must have required some serious effort on your part when seating.

If that's what was used for the pictured round I can't imagine a Redding competition seating die lasting very long doing that. From my experience you can't get enough neck tension to cause that.

I bought a Christensen Ridgeline 6.5-284 that has too much jump and won't shoot Berger VLD Hunting bullets accurately. I can't seat the bullets near the lands of the bore. There is almost 0.200 of jump with secant ogive bullets. I'm trying various tangent ogive bullets to see if I can settle down the groups. My problem: I'm deforming the bullet tips on the Accubond bullets. Switched my Redding Competition Seater back to the original seating plug (removed the VLD plug), but the deformation is too severe to continue. I ordered 21st Century dies & mandrels to open up my new Lapua brass. However, I'd appreciate some advice re/ this issue. Are others having problems? Do particular seating dies work best with tangent ogive bullets? Thank you in advance.

Wwzer that is deformation for sure. Have you checked your brass for correct dim after resizing. Looks like a u/s I.D. at the neck UNLESS you are compressing loads or a combination of both problems. Let us know what you discovered to correct this.
Another thing with that much deformation you may be loosening the lead from the jacket.

I have ran into this with Lapua and Alpha brass. As a result I now anneal and size all new brass necks with the method I plan to use I.E. mandrel or expander ball. Lapua brass is bulk packed and I had one box that must have been kicked here from Finland. At least 40% of the mouths had dings or dents.

Man I use regular plain old RCBS dies with 142 Nosler ABLR (softer tips) in my .260 Rem and have no damage at all. I buy new Lapua brass and after the first shot I full length resize an then trim, chamfer and deburr and Im usually good to go for about 5 more loads before I have to revisit. I neck size only for my target shooters and FL for hunting rigs. Maybe your expander ball is undersized or the wrong one for the sizing die resulting in higher neck tension...I've seen weirder stuff happen. Also, seems your seating die is under sized or mismatched for that ogive.

I took my Redding Competition seating die apart and removed my Berger VLD seating plug to reinstall the original seating plug that came with the die. Frankly, they looked identical. I sent an inquiry to Redding to get a part number for other seating plugs that might be available. Received a sorry this is Covid response. Hopefully, they'll send someone to work soon....

PS: I did contact Christensen and they never responded. That's the same word I use about ever buying another Christensen rifle. Looks like their customer service is as flaky as Kimber. No more of either brand in my gun safe! If I can't settle this baby down with tangent ogive bullets, that Christensen carbon wrap barrel is going to be replaced by a Proof Research barrel!!

Undersize necks won't cause that.
When I opened my first box of lapua 65284 brass the bullets went in perfectly...since then I ordered two more boxes...opened one and primed..loaded..and bullets were being shaved up the sides.....yes the necks were extremely tight...all 100 had to be resized.....
