I was drafted in 1970. Joined the Air Force in April 1971.
Honorable Discharge from them at Elmendorf AFB Ak. in 1975. Spent the next year in Ak. One of the best years of my life.
Pocket full of $$$$, Girl friends VW Bug and fishing gear. I went everywhere.
I'd spent10 months on an advanced Radar site on the end of the Aleutian islands without cashing a pay check. Dumped all of them on the paymasters desk on my last day in service.

I still have some primers, bullets, dies, fiber shotgun wads and a few other reloading items from the 60's, and not to mention, an FN Browning 270 Win from that time frame. Then Uncle Sam came calling....

Pretty classic 30-06 load 48-ish grains of 4064 and either a 165 or 168 grain bullet pretty much magic in most every 30-06 I have run it through congratulations value the time you have with your parents once they're gone you'll miss them, and happy holidays

Draft number was 47, went for the physical. Two months later I joined the AF.

You beat me by about 6 years. I was 15……my mentor was some hunting magazines and the instruction sheet inside the Lee Loader box! memtb

My mentor was a former member of the US Army pistol and rifle team. He taught me a lot about accurizing rifles and.45s as well as relocating rifle/pistol and bullet casting for rifle and pistol. I am 78 and still learning about reloading. I am fortunate in that my son is heavily interested in shooting and hunting so my/our stuff will not go to the wayside. We take a week every in September for a black bear hunt. While we're there we're planning next year's hunt. Between cartridges, bullets and rifles it keeps us busy until the next season.

I went through the boxes of my dad's old reloading stuff and found some good stuff. A lot of it is 30-06 for his 700 Remington BDL. Most of the brass has what looks like military stamps. I also found these bullets. I used his recipe for 30-06 with 165grain bullets and it grouped awesome with a Hornady Interbond. I have take 2 deer cleanly with it. Check out those old bullets from the 1970's. I will load them up over the winter.

The handloads shown here using the Nosler Partition bullets approximate the Military Lake City National Match loads with a hunting bullet substituted for the military match bullet. I have used similar for many years and they are deadly accurate.

My younger son has a budding interest in reloading. He bought a press recently, lives 13 hours driving away. Hopefully not soon, but some year he may be going through my stuff, other son also.
It's easier to liquidate in component form, as opposed to 100's or even 1000's of reloads. No matter how good you think you are, reloads often get a bad rap.


When it fits a load, I try to use up old powder as able. Right now I have older 4227, Unique, Bullseye, and IMR-4064, likely others.
Last time my son was over, I gave him a reloading manual. I have a bunch.
