A while back I purchased this incredible rifle from the estate of a gentleman back in Delaware who had built quite a collection. This one was built on a Sako L61R action with a Shilen Select Match barrel that was originally a .270 Win. and was rebored to a 338/06. I was a bit tentative about that but my research about reboring barrels put me at ease and I bought it. As shown by the target included, my confidence was well placed...my fourth 3 shot group from zeroing at 100 yds. printed .130". The two previous loads shot .526" and .614" respectively with the provided Reloder 15 loads under a Barnes 210g TTSX.
When I came across this rifle, I had no need for it but I've always absolutely loved this caliber and on top of that...the workmanship on this gun is fantastic. The wood, the fit and finish and the checkering all done by a very famous (now deceased) stock-builder whose name I should be able to retrieve, were more than I could resist. The only reason I have decided to let it go is that I quickly need to reacquire a heavier caliber rifle for Africa and although this one would be perfect for plain's game, it's not ideal for Buffalo. I'm looking for a 9.3x62 Mauser as an do-all rifle since another Elephant is not on the agenda.
I purchased Talley bases and rings for the Sako tapered rails and mounted a Swarovski Habicht AV 4-12x50 scope.
In addition, I have around 150 new appropriately head stamped pieces of Norma brass, substantial numbers and varieties of .338 bullets and a new set of Redding dies that could be included in a great package deal for the buyer.
I am pricing the rifle at $2550 shipped and insured CONUS... (Reduced)
The Swarovski plus rings and bases goes for $850
The dies and components will be discounted appropriately to the buyer,
Prices are OBO since time is of the essence.
