Coyote hunting in Michigan

Thanks @toolsofthetrade . There is definitely a learning curve to hunting them. Hopefully I am on the not so steep portion of it now. I run a thermal and that has definitely helped with getting responses and seeing them, even if I don't get a shot. It's amazing what rules people are willing to break. If you ever find yourself in central MI let me know. We can at least try and get some howls.

I've been a preadator hunter since the early 70's no coyotes in SE Michiagn back then just fox....realy none until the 90's then they realy started to be seen....also people started calling them and educating them not long after....
Now there seen in in every County in Michigan and hunted and educated.....you want to hunt easer to call coyotes you need to go to the UP....I hunted them full time in the UP for the past 15 years usally shooting around 100 every year....but its changing not as many coyotes because of the wolves also not as many deer. for food....
Have fun calling during the day its turn into a night time game now with all the people hunting them now and not nowing the proper way to call....coyotes have been very educated....
Myself on my propterty I have changed from calling to just baiting coyotes are alway hungry especially once Febuary rolls around....I use "deer sicles" I have kept my way of hunting a secret for over 30 years its quiet and cold but it works....
What you do is save or get from a butcher any and all deer butchering scraps fat, meat and bones do not use spoiled meat it doesnt help they want fresh meat just like you would put in a 5 gallon bucket then add hot water let cool and put in a freezer when its not cold enough to be kept frozen.....I make them up as soon as I can the outside temperature must be below freezing during the day to use properly. or your bait will all be eaten fast by crows and ravens...
Once frozen I rince the outside of the bucket with warm water to get the bait out of the bucket and make another one....whats great the crows and ravens do try to work a "deer sicle" but being frozen they can only get small pieces....also with the crows and ravens there quit noisy letting and coyote or fox theres a food source and where it is so its a win win for you on the bait.....
Never use these baits until deer season is over coyotes will find enought gut piles, wounded or lost deer during hunting season to feed on you want to use this bait when they are hunting and hungry.....
I put the bait up wind of the normal wind direction around 150 yards and sit in a periminet blind not a temporary one remember a coyote is smart a lot smarter than most hunters if you use a temperory blind put it up months ahead of time...only hunt a bait when the wind will be perfict haveing several baits it possible to hunt everyday......

I also use cell cameras if you want to keep track of when a bait is used....do not use just a camera the only time you want to go near a bait is if you shoot a coyote or there is no bait.....
