cow elk@1203 yards

Thaks Roy. That was unfortunate about your "coal raking" incident. I remember that and I thought you did a fine job. Anyone who has shot much precision equipment knows a head shot at 600 yards is a very doable shot and not risky in the least.

I remember when I got raked over the coals myself for letting Clint shoot his elk with my 300 mag at 949 yards last year in this exact location. In fact, in the photo off to the right in the little saddle was were Clint's elk was taken. Boy did that one stir up some junk!! Oh well, I just keep on doing what I do and those naysayers just keep on doing what they do best! Don't sweat it and welcome back.

On Monday there was about 100 head, Tuesday there was only 5 but we could see the rest were heading to the backside, Wednesday all we saw were 3 nice bulls way in the back and Thursday the whole troop of 100+ came across.

We went back in there on the last Saturday and they had moved around the mountain. So we went around and found them and had them at 1326 yards but the hunter didn't feel like getting out of his nice warm truck. It was 4 degrees outside and snowing and would not have been fun for two guys to get an elk out like that.

Then we made plans to go out on the last day but his son's transfer case needed work so we didn't make it out. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Don't get me wrong, I was itching to drop another cow and would have crawled on my hands and knees through the snow to get to those elk, but my hunting partner is double my age and was more comfortable to just sit and watch the elk. I had to go along with it because after all, it is his tag. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

It was way against my nature to see my target like that and shut off the switch to go after it 110%!

GG,

A successful hunt can be measured in a lot of ways. The kill isn't always the bottom line, just being in game country or viewing game or even just being with good friends and family can be considered a successful hunt.

I respect your friends decission to stay in the warm truck.
If it were me, I would have stayed warm gutting and packing out fresh elk steaks. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If I may ask, how did the 338 Thunder do this hunting season?

What was the wind doing and was he going for a head shot? I guess somebody has to ask these questions and stir the pot a little. Most people can't shoot someone else's rifle to the same point of impact. With that kind of rest it might not matter.

Nobody HAS to stir the pot. Nobody HAS to ask questions.

I would suggest that before you start acting like you are some special envoy from God placed on earth to keep the great unwashed masses from doing wrong that you go and establish you credentials as to what you know about shooting. Then when you decide you know more than the rest of us and are better than the rest of us we will have some real knowledge of exactly what you know.

Who appointed you to be the QUESTIONER?

I read your post and can't make any sense out of it. You are the one who has a problem.

You make your first post to "stir the pot". You make the claim that somebody "has to". I merely say "nobody has to". You choose to start an argument with your first post on the forum.

I suggested that you go an post an introduction and establish your credentials before you sit in judgement of the rest of us. What is so hard to understand about that.
