Complete Newbie seeking advice for elk setup

Here is what I know:
Winchester Model 70 .300win mag
Athlon 8-34-56 Argos btr ffp
I want to kill an elk and feel confident pulling the trigger at 500-600 yds.

What I don't know:
What bases and rings to use
What bullets to use

Any advice on rings bases and bullets is welcomed and appreciated

Wow, big scope magnification! I would want to feel confident at 50 yards as well.
Are you going factory ammo only?

Winchester expedition big game long range 190gr nosler ABLR, Vortex precision matched rings. You mite want to tame the scope a little bit.

Scope: Agree with other previous comments. We're running 3.5-10's on our elk rigs, which will easily carry you to 500 yards...yet be practical for close range. I had an opportunity this year at a "ranged" 560 yards, and didn't feel under scoped! If you feel that you "must" have a high power scope, consider the Leupold 3-18....gives you the best of both worlds.

Base/Rings: We use Leupold Quick Detachable and have a back-up scope already zero'd

Bullets: I'm a huge fan of Barnes mono bullets. I would look at the 165 or 168 TTSX or the 175 LRX. Though I would lean more toward the 168 TTSX. memtb

Scope is in hand. I'm gonna use it. Do you suggest a picatinny rail base for the vortex precision matched rings?

I'm liking the Burris XTR rings right now. But any high-quality rings will get the job done, but they will not be the cheapest you can find.

Kelbys..Seekins..Barrett..All make good rings.

If your gun has a ten twist go with the 215 Berger, H1000 and Fed GM215M primer. Start them 30-40 thou off and work up to pressure.

I run a vortex 4-16x44 h st . For rings and bases standard red field. As for ammo 180 Barnes 180 t t s x win or federal brass fed 215m and Ramshot magnum powder.
