Common rifle twist

It's not a 1:1 cancellation, it just lessens the effect and can even go the other way with really fast twists. Plus LH twist only cancels it out in the northern hemisphere. Sure most of us live in the northern hemisphere, but it's important to note as there's a surprising number of Aussies into long range shooting who might be below the equator, as well as southern Africans (by that I don't mean the country but the southern portion of the continent)
Correct, never said it was a 1:1 , there are advantages and disadvantages to everything, even barrel twist rates.

I just like to test them all my self-using the 'Cleaning Rod " method. Just did that with my newly purchased 1949 Win Model 70 chambered in 300 H and H . its a 10 twist . It takes almost no time at all, and there is no more wondering!! Simple , and easy . Write it down in your notes. Even though this rifle will never actually become a true Hunting Rifle,( more like a Bench Queen ) . I see that using 210 grn. and 220 grn. bullets may yield disappointing results. No Problem.

Hi Simon, you see the video that is posted with Larry potterfield inserting a cleaning rod with a patch , puts a tine piece of tape on the shaft and measure the length the rod travels to make one full turn ! So simple and easy ! Watch the video . I just start the rod and pouch till it makes one perfect turn ! Them measure from where to started to when you stoped it ! You will get. Number like 9 inches , or 10 inches or even 12 inches or 14 inches ! A factory barrel will usually be a whole number ! Look at Larry's video !!

BTW, the weigh (yes, pun intended) it is not bullet weight that determines required twist for stabilization. It is the length of the bullet and the velocity that it is launched at. A 30 cal 175 grain copper VLD shaped bullet requires a faster twist than a 30 cal 180 grain cup n core jacketed RN lead bullet. Also, plastic tipped below requires less twist to stabilize than non plastic tipped. As little as 200 fps second in a marginal twist rate could stabilize the bullet. Now, I would not buy a slower twist rate barrel and say I'll just load above max and get extra velocity but 200 fps does have an effect
