I have a lock on an early 90's model 70 featherweight with a custom grade walnut stock and stainless barreled action chambered in 270. I think I may just be adding that to my safe to satisfy my need for a classic bolt gun.
So I bought a Winchester Model 70 Classic Stainless Featherweight barreled action from the early 90's and I found a never mounted custom grade walnut stock with the red butt pad. I am going to mount a Leupold VX-3L 3.5-10x50 on it which I realize wasn't introduced until much later but still represents the classy Leupold gold band and a clean matte finish with some modern touches. I'll add a nice leather sling and call it done. I'll post pics when complete.
The older model 70's are tough to beat I've got one in 270 that will do everything I need and more. My go to lately has been the old M77, I've got a couple in 220 swift and a 25-06 that are all tack drivers. If I had to go non-US my Sako L579
Forester in 243 is high on my list. First pic is the Sako, second is one of the M77 in 220 swift.
Love the pictures. Both are beautiful rifles and great calibers. My brother had an old M77 round top in 7mag that was a hell of a shooter. I shot my first buck with an M77. Nothing wrong with a Ruger.
First centre fire I ever fired was my grandfathers model 70 in .308, I was about 9 at the time and rember it well, thought I was one of the big boys. Understandably I've always had a thing for the model 70 and just recently got myself a SuperGrade in .300 win mag. I still have that old .308 though, always will.
