Choosing a new scope...

I have two new rifles I need to get some optics on. The first is a semi custom 26 Nosler and the second is a semi custom 338 RUM. I have about a grand to spend on each one. My plan is to do some longer range target practice, but both will be mainly hunting rigs out here in Idaho.

My buddy has a Huskeman scope on 300 WM, and I really like his adjustable turrets. Range the target, turn the dial, and prepare to fire. Personally, I am just not a huge fan of the clarity of his scope.

Both of my current hunting rifles (AR in 6.8 SPC and Browning Hells Canyon in 7mm) have a Steiner Predator Xtreme 3x12x56 mounted on top.

Any recommendations for a scope under a grand that has or I can get custom/adjustable turrets for?

Leupold vx5hd, you can find them in the 3-15x44 some times under a $1,000. The optics in the vx5hds is very good, so are the turrets.

I agree with above that the VX5HD would be a great choice.

If you shop around you should be able to find a VX6 3-18 used within your budget or just above. THAT would be my first and last choice.

*What I would do*

Put a zeiss v4 on the 26 Nosler. I bought mine for under 700$.

Take that extra money and add it to the rum budget, for the 338 either get a mk5hd 5-20/vortex razor gen 1(~1400) or save another month for a vortex razor gen2 (I saw AMGs going for 1.8k on Black Friday). Or a used NXS.

These prices take searching and some shopping time, but they are out there. Just got to decide if you're time is better spent looking for deals or generating cash for normal prices.

Understand, but he could. He's halfway there with a second focal ATACR. He wants clarity. I would just save more, and get good glass.

Jeff May (he's GTG) has a Burris XTR 4-20 illum FFP for $800 >>> https://www.longrangehunting.com/threads/high-end-scope-sale.211457/#post-1525367

Lots of scope for the money.

For the 338 RUM, look in the classifieds here to see if you can find a used NF ATACR (2nd focal plane). I bought a used one here for my 338 Lapua and love it.
Also, consider a Zeiss V6 for your 26 Nosler. I just upgraded to it on my 6.5-284 Norma. It's a very nice scope
If you want new and within your budget, look at the Sightron SIII 6-24x50 with the MOA-2 reticle. I've had this scope for some time and it's great for the price point

Probably an easy answer, I just can't find it. I've found a few scopes on the classified section, but I can't reply, insufficient privileges.

What am I missing?
