Chinese Water Deer

The land is in an area called "The Fens" it's pancake flat for miles and miles so getting into reasonably close position for a safe shot isn't easy! The ditch was my best option. Most of the Fens are below sea level and the drainage system is there to allow water to be pumped away (it's land drainage water)

I was shooting my Tikka T3 lite in .243 with a 100g Norma. It's my go to for most of my shooting. Which locally includes Muntjac, Chinese, Roe, Fallow, Red (but I step up to .308 for them) and foxes .

We do have wild boar, goat and Sika but not locally and you would step up the caliber for them too.

Fascinating! I found "The Fens" on the internet and read up on the land and its history, along with a multitude of photos including some of the many drainage ditches. Absolutely beautiful country. Thank you for piquing my curiosity and congratulations on a successful hunt. Well done!

So I googled the whole tusk thing (I know) lol. Anyway according to the interweb they use them in place of antlers during the rut. odd thing is both bucks and does have them, along with a few other species of deer. Who knew?!

I wonder how hard it would be to train them to walk around "headbanging" (maybe with some heavy metal to assist) and utilize this unique anatomical feature to aerate soil? The useless ideas my brain comes up with…it's a funny mental image for sure…

That would be a cool mount, the fangs are definitely not the norm here. I wanted to get the deer I just sent to the taxidermist to look like this picture but my wife said she wouldn't allow it in the house.

Would anyone's wife tolerate this kind of thing? . And next question, if she was just all cool with it, wouldn't that make you a tad alarmed or suspicious (I put up with your crazy , so you can't be mad when you find out about mine…kind of thing)
