Cheap scope feasibility

I have to admit those monstrums look cool for the price. My cheap scope on my AR is a Nikon Prostaff 4.5-14 with mildot ret. But the ret only mils when set at 12X lol. It worked well enough for a holdover shot on a chuck at 530 yards.

I'm sure your brother will appreciate whatever he gets. It's always nice to get gun stuff from a brother.

Does anyone have good experiences with cheap scopes? I was looking at the monstrum tactical 1-3 G3 scope. I just thought it was a cool little scope at $140, much like the Nikon P223 3X. Thinking about getting it for my brothers AR. Does anyone have any other scope recommendations < $200?

Also, I know the adage you get what you pay for. I have NF, Bushnell DMRs / LRHS, SWFA HDs so I know what I'm giving up. Just looking for a functional, beater scope.
Yes I have. I've bought several "economy" scopes that were great, (some cheaper ones past 600 yards). Too, I have bought more expensive scopes & regretted it. A friend bought one brand new that was junk. I bought an expensive one recently & had to immediately send it back to the manufacturer. I suppose there are good ones & bad ones in everything.

Okay - since you asked. I have a couple of Ruger 10/22's with what I consider a great little scope - a Center Point 3-12X44 made I believe by cross man - the air rifle folks. And since a low recoil buffer-type riffle will probably not beat it to death, I have one on an AR and it works great there was well. I am temepted to try it on Ruger Precsion RIfle (6.5CM) just for kicks (no pun intended). I have a .308 that did beat one scope to junk (it was supposed to be a low cost - high quality scope) that thee manufacturer replaced at no cost. So, I suggest you heed the adivce of those who say buy once, cry once. Or take your chances.............. Oh, BTW - it cost me $94.00.

look at the SWFA scopes. $299.00 for many of their fixed power. they usually have a big sale on Black Friday.
Turrets are good on these scopes. Glass for this price range is good.
Made in Japan by Light Optics Works.

Just how much 'beating' does the scope need to withstand?
The variable power scopes are more, but they are built to last.

I have several SWFAs. I love them. It's for my brother. Just typical in and out of a truck, In and out of stands, carrying in the woods, sitting in a safe, a lot of range time. He's not gentle with his firearms. Does a lot of positional drills and transitions from rifle to pistol and back. Not really a long range guy.

So bc it's for my brother, I don't want him gouging into my NF budget. Lol

I saw one of the Leupold AR scope 3-9 TMR in the used optics section AR15.com $250
